Re: X-Pipe

If you order from Stainless Works tell them you don't want the baffling inside,if they won't order X-pipe from B&B or do a search for other X-pipes

Massimilliano,

Ciao. I just went through a similar change on my car and removed the MFlow Xpipe/resonator combination and replaced with Stainless Works Xpipe (baffling removed). Let me ask why you want to remove the B+B resonator? If its for the sound, that's one thing. If its for power, I'll suggest don't bother unless you get the car retuned.

Hi Dom!!!!
I want remove the resonator only for sound, i'm notinteresting in power!!!
I write to B&B and they answer to me that don't sell the X-Pipe.
I think to buy it from Stainless Works...when i have some money!!!!;-)

Pete,

They'll want to charge you $100 extra for no baffling. That's what I was told.

Max,

Sorry to intrude on your post, but I have a few questions or comments for the group.

Why does SW put a baffle in the X pipe? It sounds like that defeats the purpose and why charge someone $100 to not have the baffle?

Why does B&B not want to sell someone their X pipe; we all know they make one for our cars and I hope it does not have a baffle.

If I can't pass emissions here in Japan to register my Z, then I want to put my headers back on, no cats and X pipe to replace resonator for max performance (with tune) and best sounds (especially having cams). I will just get temp plate and drive it periodically and not give a crap about polluting, sound decibels, drone since they make it so difficult to register. Like Scott said, if it will reduce the drone then that is plus.

Don't know about B+B altho I had tried to buy a separate item from them once and was told they don't do that.
As for the SW X, I thought I had bought what Paul, and Pete, and Al had gotten. When I got the Xpipe, which came within 2 days of ordering, I saw the baffles insides and I have posted pics of them (http://zr1.net/forum/showpost.php?p=126147&postcount=67). Baffles have since been tossed. Al installed my Xpipe in place of the MFlow X+resonator setup. While he was at it, he removed the baffles. A true ZR-1 brudda!
So I now have Watson 1 7/8" headers followed by the SW X and backed by MFlow mufflers. It is louder than before but not harsher. It is also DEEPER. You can hear the cams now. Not radical but a definite beat to them. At cruise with a steady or slight off throttle, its pretty mellow. I can hear the radio fine. There is some drone when motor is under load at 1500rpm. However, my plan is to out in 3.90s or 4.10s in rear which should help especially since my 19" Z06 wheels reduce the current 3.45 gear to about a 3.00.
Still investigating Z06 tip+flappers on Dynomax UltraFlows.

Dom,

Thanks for sharing and great info. It sounds like you might have the perfect set up or getting there. I think I'm stuck with my B&B mufflers and definitely will get an X pipe without baffles be it B&B or SW. I don't want to try any of the others and looking for a direct fit. This is good news (not about the baffle).

I have read where others have had the same experience with B&B not selling individual pieces. I believe they sold me the X-Pipe without question because they had record of my purchase of the complete system.

Well we could have the SW Xpipe sent here and then have Al remove baffles like he did mine. One other thing. Bob G. recently commented that another contributing factor to drone may be single wall exhaust tips like those of the B+B. The Z06 tips are double walled as are the MFlow tips on my mufflers. Corsa also are double walled albeit smaller diameter.

I have the B&B Xpipe and it has no baffles. It is also long and smooth in the design, rather than those squashed looking pipes. I bought it in place of their resonator when I purchased a cat back.

Thanks for the offer. That would still cost too much and just shipping and all it seems best if I could do find one w/o baffles. Very interesting about the exhaust tips and maybe you are onto to something there for sure.......

Scott,

I think that is same thing I went through years ago in conversation with one of the Boat brothers, not Billy (Michael?) and back then it was $275 and should have just bought it then. Hopefully I am still on file so I can get one from B&B. I'll have to try to call them on Monday.
