Re: ZR-1s smoked 'em again!
Dominick,
I think you just gave #2870 his new nickname, "Maximus".......Strength & Honor...... By the way, I ran the corrected sea-level times for my best run, 10.49 @ 133.9 mph. Standard Atmosphere Sea-Level correction for those numbers would be 10.36 @ 135.5 mph. I'm going to dub the car the fastest street legal N/A ZR1 off of that. Nice work Pete!! Cheers all, Kevin |
Re: ZR-1s smoked 'em again!
awesome stuff !! I don't suppose this caused a fuss on any c5/6 forums on cf? would love to read up on some whining !:dancing

are you by chance running the RAM dual disk? like to hear more about your combo. I need the FBI gang to give the old LSV a once over one of these days. need to get the little Miss out of college first, and I promised to "wear it out" before a refresh. great job guys defending the legend and showing them some ZR-1 tailights the FBI guys are smoking fast. sorry to hear about your ZF pete. but considering how many power shifts it's been through, it gave it's life for a good cause and knowing you it's fixed already! love to hear more about the "new tech" tuning, head porting, cams, turbos! cmon guys GIVE!!! thanks for posting this up. say hi to Marc and the FBI team for me. |

I was laughing my Azz off as I was writing that post. I just thought it was so appropriate. Your car is a true Gladiator and it gave it up for the glory of Rome or Chicago in this case. MAXIMUS is a very accurate name for the performance from your ZR. Ron, Also don't forget BobGs 427 w a 10.88 @ 131. Mark and Dean w 120 traps on stock block, stock cammed motors. I ran a 12.4@118+ for my first time taking a car back down this track since losing my blue car. I was on street tires and kept the ASR on ;). Pete and I found a few days later that my throttle may not have been opening completely. All in all, pretty stellar performance from very streetable cars getting 20+ mpg and idling at a fairly docile 900rpm. |
Re: ZR-1s smoked 'em again!
the white lpe 415 that John drove at beach bend in 2000 went 10.60 @ 134

Kevin's Z has an AUTO trans 4L65E Precision Industries Lock up TC. Closed deck 441ci,ported heads big valves, ported plenum/IH's,63mm TB, Jeal 2" headers full 3" B&B's(old style), X-pipe. What is nice about Maximus is grandma can drive it to church :) We have some plans for MAXIMUS this winter maybe 9's next year  Pete |
Re: ZR-1s smoked 'em again!
I think Bob G's 427 can beat my car, at least in mph/trap speed. It's of note that Bob had a better 1/8th mile trap than me 103 vs 102 - even on my 10.49 run. We think he was running into a minor tuning problem on the top end of the track. Bob & Pete have a couple of ideas and I threw one of my own out there too. I am pretty certain Bob G can hit 136-137 trap speed if all is right with tuning and weather/track conditions. If he has my automatic by 1mph in the 1/8th, I think if all is right, he can be plus 2mph in the quarter by virtue of the ZF 6-speed.

Re: ZR-1s smoked 'em again!
thanks for the info Kevin! congrats on building such a potent combo
interesting to see it has an auto. the 4L65E is a great tranny to build up. so many nice stroker combos we need a "modified registry" of all the ZR-1s with heavy mods and their times the old LSV will do 11.42 @ 129 the MPH indicates its putting down the power but the ET shows a distinct lack of traction hope to get it out in the nice fall weather, but might not make it. needs new rear bearings and a bushing or two. thinking hard about the banski stuff as it looks like it would free up the travel and improve ride and handling I briefly drove Bob G.s car in the pits at BG and was very impressed at how "docile yet fierce" that car drove with the dual disk clutch I need one! what does the RAM 9" setup run? I hope it will tame down the tranny gear ratte too. my car sounds more like a diesel truck than a ZR-1 and it gets on my nerves sometimes. I also think a bit heavier flywheel and clutch package would help the launch the fidanza is great for road racing but is horrible for drag racing and I don't care much for it. one for sale soon! |

Yes - the ZR1s should win the N/A class at those 1/2 mile events. I think Al or Bob would've gotten it done if their car/cars stayed healthy/made the event. I think the only reason I couldn't beat the C6 was the automatic falls flat on its face when shifting into OD right after the 1/4 mark. Not a problem for me in the 1/4, but the 1/2 is a different story. I hit the finish line in the 1/2 at around 5,600 rpm I think I recall - way below power peak. Bob & Al wouldn't have that problem.
