Re: Second time for Secondchance
Hey Yun,
I just got off the phone with Kevin from Revolution Brakes. After your issue in 2013 the brackets were corrected with the next order. The kits from Revolution Brakes are good to go now and direct bolt on with no modifications. Great news and I'm in! He said they can also powdercoat colors for those that don't want the Wilwood black for some bling. Thanks again! |

October 10, 2015 update:
Phil joined us at Dempsey's and timed all 4 camshafts using degree wheel. http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/u...pspq8ex04s.jpg LT5 is almost ready to be dropped in the car. Thanks guys!!! |
Re: Second time for Secondchance
Oh Magician Phil. I wish I had half of his talent and all of his tools. Looking good Yun!

10/12/2015 update:
Motor finally going back in the car under Dempsey's watchful eyes. http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/u...ps3g39fnje.jpg 7 hrs later transmission and exhaust installed. http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/u...psvwmxonl7.jpg It was long day for sure. My whole body is aching from wrestling with 700 lbs of motor and 100 lbs transmission... She'll be running come Saturday. |
Re: Second time for Secondchance
Can't wait to hear the good news! Best wishes.

Re: Second time for Secondchance
and please...lets get that damn thing on a dyno...no more excuses Yun!

10/17/2015 update:
Started with cleaning under the car. Took advantage of Dempsey's lift and Touched up areas I can't normally get to. Finished installing injector housings, and with Dempsey joining me later, coils, plenum, etc... http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/u...psubtbangd.jpg Oil pressure is 45 psi at operating temp at idle and no strange noise from the motor. On the way home car was missing most likely due to plug wires being plugged into wrong coil terminal. I was too tired and in a hurry. Ordered new set of plug wires and spark plugs. Can't believe I had to do this twice but it's done and behind me. Great big thanks to Dempsey, Phil, Rich and all WAZOO gang for incredible help! |
Re: Second time for Secondchance
Looks awesome Yun and glad to hear the good news. Like Lee said, can't wait to see the dyno results on a 380. On another note, thanks for the info on the Revolution Brakes and I should receive them next week or so.

Great news Yun!

Re: Second time for Secondchance
Finally installed new NGK iridium plugs and replaced spark plug wires. I had crossed #3 and #5 wires-explains why she was missing bad returning home from Dempsey's.
All's great now. |

Re: Second time for Secondchance
Drove into work today. Even with .425" intake cams, when running right, LT5 runs really smooth. I didn't go too crazy and kept it below 4000 rpm.
Check out that oil pressure! http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/u...psxjhjpyud.jpg When oil temp is at 197 the gauge says 38 psi. This reading is with Mobil 1, 10-30. Probably this is no big deal to most. However, having endured not knowing why my pressure was like 12 psi at idle, and more importantly, wondering if the low pressure was damaging the motor for 8 months, this is a big deal for me. |
Re: Second time for Secondchance
Lookin good Yun!!!!!.....break it in right and bring it back to me to do the oil change and oil analysis !!!;)

Re: Second time for Secondchance
I think it would also be cool to run some traces with EASE and send them off to Marc if you are going to do a chip reburn
I have it on an old laptop if you'd like to give that a try I would before you dyno it and even get a wide band 02 installed to see what WOT AF ratio is doing for you. they are cheap!! we should do a wazzooo tune on this bad boy. If we pool our $$ we can afford the gear and then learn together some tweaking fun winter project!!! congrats on getting the "black beast from the east" back on the road and help usher in the era of a low $$ LT5 builds!! the 380 is a fantastic combo using the affordable offset stock crank and I think with solid intake and injector housing porting this combo will see over 500 at the tire which is a really good goal. LPE LSV 36k (includes brakes and B&B, headers ect...) - 508 hp Secondchance stroker lop a HUGE chunk off that price tag. - 500+ HP I love my LSV but I sure wouldn't want to pay for it that build!!! (thanks Larry RIP) I'm very impressed with what the Wazzooo boys have done along the lines of poor mans power (pardon the hi jack) I'll send some pics of my lastest "poor mans toy" a TT 4.8 LS iron block with forged wiseco pistons, gen IV stock floating pin rods, stock crank, head studs, twin t04 turbos, 127 lb injectors, haltech ECM target is 1k hp at the tire without twisting it up over 6500 ok, r u sitting down short block cost ($1230 at lloyds) bought a used engine for $2300 with the turbos & stuff and freshened it up (had a bent rod and piston skirt issue). guy was nice enough to give me another 4.8 too!! I'll be building that one next for a bit more lunati forged 4.0 crank, rods, and wiseco pistons with AFR 225 heads to update the Z06 TTix TT (800 at the tire will only scare you for so long, need another 200, it's chasing the dragon I know but I like dragon rides :) very happy with the results and cost. I hope to put this beast in a 68 vert vette as the current 350 is a bit below my clearly jaded standards (anything less than 400 at the tire feels slow now :<) boostamuv!! maybe we can do a Wazoo TT ZR-1 someday. if I can talk robert into welding up those stock manifolds, some nice ball bearing billet wheel turbos LPE style, and a megasquirt doing "secondary only control" I'd really also like to do a cross ram intake with two fuel rails, one for pump gas and then the megasquirt controlling a separate fuel system to bring on some big doggie 80 lbs injectors running meth. also like to go coil on plug at the same time and the megasquirt can handle the ignition chores with just a crank trigger. I'll live without the fuel range estimates and the security system :> I think the raptor megasquirt thing may have died off but I might be able to talk Phil out of his prototype or at least get corey to do me another one :> I hope to do this someday right after I sell both kidneys and an arm :o |
Re: Second time for Secondchance
The Megasquirt guys (www.diyautotune.com) are local (Suwanee, GA) and I hear they are very close to offering engine management computers for the LT-5. They told me recently they just need to test the last firmware version. As you say, it can control secondary butterflies/injectors, coil-on-plugs and more. That's pretty great news, not only for folks wanting to modify, but also considering the lack of GM computers available if one goes bad.

our ECMS can still be repaired for way less than the cost for the new ECM |

Now that #256 is running again, I'll be at Cars and Coffee this Saturday. We can talk about best option to record data and get it off to Marc. Amount of money saved - no doubt! Holding and oiling pistons and sliding them into each sleeves - priceless! |

Re: Second time for Secondchance
yes, we are paying for the R&D there as the LS megasquirt is 1200 or less with a plug and play harness.
the after market ECM capabilties that is opens up are pretty cool though. the old ECM is the ZR-1 was a bit of a bastard child and very slow in processing power compared to the new stuff. the MS without the wiring is only a few hundred bucks. I'd like to try it JUST controlling the secondaries with a modified memcal and I think that would work pretty cool! LPE did that on the TT cars very successfully with the aussie LINC stuff. Graham, you out there! |
