Re: Bill Boudreau Transmission Install
Last Sunday David and I swapped cars on the drive out to the Chip Miller charity event so I could check out his new transmission. I always felt the ZF S6-40 was one of the better shifting transmissions around however Bill Boudreau's work certainly takes it a step further compared to stock. David's transmission shifted much smoother and firmer with no hint of slop or lost motion while rowing through the gears. Now that David is running an aluminum flywheel I was also impressed with how quiet it was at idle while in neutral with the clutch out. Not the box of rocks sound many expirience. I also liked the feel of Bill's shortened throw length stock shifter. The throws seemed shorter than the Hurst I currently have in mine with the about the same shifting effort required. The rubber isolated shaft of the stock shifter also does a good job of eliminating most of the vibration you feel up through the solid shaft Hurst shifter. This experience sealed the deal for me. Come this spring one of Bill's units will be behind the 402 when it hits the road.
On a further note, its a well known fact certain AB's Zs are long on looks but a little short on "you know what". However, standby boys and girls, if all goes according to plan this pretty tortoise will be soon busting out of its shell! |
