Re: Which ZR-1 Do I Buy?
both sound great. If it were me, I would buy the lower mileage one. But seeing as how you want the mods, let the current owner take the hit on those and buy it already done.

Re: Which ZR-1 Do I Buy?
I went through this last summer. I looked at two, a 30 k miles '94 with mods that originally cost about $9,000 and a 20k miles '95 bone stock. The 94 was priced about $5k more than the 95. Seemed reasonable as they were mods that I would do anyway. Before I had a chance to see it, it sold at the asking price. I think I intentionally dragged my feet on it because I really wanted a late production 95 anyway and I favored the Polo Green over the other car's color. But whoever got it got a great Z; it was a beauty and a known car locally. I am glad I got the 95, one of the last 40 produced and in very good shape. I will be doing the mods and a bit more, so I am definitely out more $$$$ and if I have to sell it I will probably lose at least half the value of the mods. But it will be exactly what I want with the mods done locally by Marc Haibeck. And I will have most if not all the original parts if someone someday wants to go back to stock. Whomever pries this out of my estate when I kick off will probably get a great bargain but for now I am happy. Substantially poorer, but with a ZR-1 permagrin. --Bob

Re: Which ZR-1 Do I Buy?
I will have either a 460hp red black 92 25K miles for sale in the next 3-6 months or a 91 White/Black 500-530hp 368 w/cams, coil overs, Billet shifter, and billet pedalsw/17K miles....

Re: Which ZR-1 Do I Buy?
I know you know the answer already ;)...so here is some positive reinforcement just so you can get on with your buying chores! Get the modded one! :-D
Now just in case you're really conflicted....I don't see how, but just in case. I never had a Z till I bought mine back in 04 when they weren't so reasonably priced. I bought a one owner, bone stock, no stories 7400 mile Virgin car in a color combo that I liked, black over grey. One of the Z brothers rode with me at Carlisle back in 06 or 07. We were getting the highway from Harrisburgh to go to the fair grounds.....know what he said after the acceleration up to highway speed was done? "I had forgot how slow stock Z's actually are." Tom |
Re: Which ZR-1 Do I Buy?
I bought a '94 red/red on ebay with 16k in June 2010. I figure the original owner died, his kids took it to the dealer and traded it on new tahoe or something. the motor looked terrible - needed to be re-finished. The car ran terrible - I had owned a Viper in the interim after selling my first Z, so maybe that was part of it. So I sent it to Haibeck for top end job, refinishing & fix what I thought was secondaries not coming on. Oh, and had headers, magnaflow and 4.10 put in.
The car's awake now!!! And I have over $35K in it. There have been some killer deals with 90-91 modified (500 hp+) Zs on the net classified for mid to high twenties. So economically one of those would have been a better decision for me. I think you need to look at the overall condition of the car to decide if it's the right one. and not buy it sight unseen like I did - although I'm happy with it now. Hey Hil King Bob - that's funny you ended up with a green 95. You drove my green 91 - I don' t remember now if it was the museum grand opening in '93 or the last ZR-1 celebration in 95. I still like the green too. Jack |

David,
Marc does nice work, doesn't he. I'll try attaching a couple of photos, not sure if this is going to work though. Jack |
