Re: Door ajar switch for My ZR-1
When I needed these, I couldn't find new ones anywhere. (The PO had removed the switches for his brilliant alarm install)
I found some used ones at corvettenutz.com -- these were much more expensive than John's though  |
Re: Door ajar switch for My ZR-1

Purists won't like this door switch replacement procedure. I'm not 'that' kind of purist. I just want my stock ZR-1 to work the way it did when it left Bowling Green.
To keep from loosing the plate or taking the door apart for door switch replacement I removed 1 bolt at a time from the switch, cut half the hole from the top and bottom of the old door switch's plastic housing, removed the bad switch, replaced with a new switch modified like the old switch was for removal, used a pick to hold the plug in place while I tied some dental floss to the plug's retainer 'just in case', then plugged the new switch in, rotated it into place, and tightened the 2 bolts. The labor part took less than 15 minutes. The angst watching YouTube videos of people breaking parts taking the doors apart; reading the service manual; reading forums; searching on-line; took hours. Knowing the C4 doesn't need my help to break or fall apart I opted for the easy way out - modification of the door switch for easy replacement. |
Re: Door ajar switch for My ZR-1
I followed a similiar procedure 3 times now, due to defective cheap Chinese made switches that broke. The first one, the plunger would not go in all the way and the plunger disconnected from the collar the first time I shut the door. The next one, just did not work. Now on my 3rd and so far so good... I cut off part of the thin plastic pin end, so it would push into the plunger further and prevent breakage. The original had a ratchet feel to the pin, but the knock-offs don't ratchet.
Anyone find a source for OEM or well made aftermarket door ajar switches? |
