For long term storage, I think this type of engine stand would create less mechanical stress at the rear of the block than the traditional engine stand. The dead weight would be more evenly distributed. There are two down sides to using this type of engine stand for anything other than storage: 1 - you can't rotate the engine to work on it 2 - the engine sits very low to the ground I'm just speaking from the experience I had...your's may work out. |
Re: 93-95 LT5 Long Block?
Picked the engine up yesterday and could find no issues after a thorough inspection.
Special thanks to Rick, David, and Jim for taking the time to help me out. Jim will post some pics later showing how the mission went. One thing is for sure we all came away with a greater respect for the methods the Ancient Egyptians used to build the great pyramids after finally getting it loaded on Rick's truck. http://www.primaryhistory.org/data/i...vesweb-232.jpg |

Re: 93-95 LT5 Long Block?
It was a good day to take a trip with some Z brothers. Phil got a good deal,(stole it) ;) it took us longer to get the thing loaded in the truck with 2ft of snow around us than it did to tie & gag the guy up.:eusa_shhh
Congrats Phil  she is all safe and sound, do you want me to put the heat on to keep her warm? |

Re: 93-95 LT5 Long Block?
Left the house in MD at 6AM, met David and Phil at 7:30AM, met Rick in NJ, got to Boston 3PM, inspected and loaded the LT5, stopped in Danbury to see Scott, and made it back to home at 3AM.
950 miles! Hung out all day with my buddies, picked up Phil's LT5. It doesn't get any better than that. Here is the LT5 at the storage place where Phil is doing the receipt inspection: http://i407.photobucket.com/albums/p...p/DSC02976.jpg Magnet inspection of the oil pan showed no problems: http://i407.photobucket.com/albums/p...p/DSC02970.jpg Posing with the Heart of the Beast: http://i407.photobucket.com/albums/p...p/DSC02974.jpg Moving to the "loading area": http://i407.photobucket.com/albums/p...p/DSC02980.jpg Planning conference to discuss the load procedure: http://i407.photobucket.com/albums/p...p/DSC02981.jpg I didn't get any pictures of the actual loading the engine into the truck because I was ....... well, I was loading the engine into the truck. As always, Phil was very well prepared with everything we needed to load and secure the engine. Thanks to Scott in Danbury for hosting a short stop on the way back home: http://i407.photobucket.com/albums/p...p/DSC02988.jpg Jim |
Re: 93-95 LT5 Long Block?
Jim,
Thanks for posting the pics. Perhaps it’s better that our loved ones (and insurance companies) don't see us in action loading the engine. |
Re: 93-95 LT5 Long Block?
That is why the camera was in my pocket Phil. ;)
