Re: What kind of oil consumption are u experiencing?
Normal driving is proper warm up and an hour or two of spirited driving to me. Living in rural farm country allows me many unsupervised miles.
I have experienced 400-1000 miles per quart on average over a few cars and 26,000 miles in the past 12 months. Anyone that doesn?t add oil is either fibbing a little or needs to hit 7000 rpm a few more times per hour. 90?s definitely use more than later years. I told a perspective buyer, who thought a quart per 1000 was a lot, that these cars were not for him. Nobody likes adding oil, but when you have no idea where it goes, who?s to argue the fun? |

Tell him not to buy BMWs either.

Re: What kind of oil consumption are u experiencing?
Mine uses about a quart in 4000 miles, and I wring it out when I drive it. When I first got it used about a quart in 1500, but after chasing down leaks it is where it is now oil pan was the biggest leaker. My E39 M5 BMW used about a quart in 2500 miles, once the leaks were sorted, about a quart every 1000 before that.

Re: What kind of oil consumption are u experiencing?
Hi,
How do you explain that oil consumption is higher when filling up to "full" on the dipstick and then less after consuming 1/2 quart? |

Re: What kind of oil consumption are u experiencing?
I might guess that a cup of oil is replenishing the 11.6 quart cooling system, and it may have drained out some during the oil change.

Re: What kind of oil consumption are u experiencing?
How long does it take to consume that quarter?
I think you're right, because I don't know where this oil can go other than PCV (but you told me that the consumption at this level was not more important), or as Dynomite said by a oil pan leak... |
