Paul, i'm sure all is ok.

Here's a little something that might cheer you up.

I found this looking for something else the sad part is i remember when he was selling, this ad was December 2002,i was porting my heads that month and dyno'd March 2003.

91 #818, Black/Black, 29,500 miles! Mods Include..... 368ci, ported heads, plenum & inj. housings, 63mm TB, 2" Watson headers, 3" Tri-Flo exhaust, Rippie roll bar, Rippie camber & trailing arm brackets, short throw shifter, Fidanza Lt. weight flywheel, 5 spoke wheels, 3.90 rear, speed correction box, drillied-slotted rotors, Grand Sport calipers, stainless steel lines, brake cooler lines, lowered!!

The car pulled 434.4 rwhp & 406.5 rwtq (corrected), this car was built by South Ga. Corvette (Aaron Scott)!! Also have both tops, window sticker, build sheet, original wheels!! I've probably left something out, package has around 6000 miles on it!!!

This is an extremely fun car, will make someone real happy!! Another project is the only reason this car is for sale, and everything else!!

Wow!! That IS interesting!!! ("None so blind as those that WILL NOT SEE";))

But, back on topic, I've got an idea for a mod to toss onto the table at our FBI performance & engineering...er... "pizza nite" (I meant to say) on Saturday. It might make for an interesting hp adder. :cheers:

Looks like the added cubes in the 368 show up as better torque numbers than the 5.7L. Doesn't say whether these are stock cams. Larger displacement is probably being limited by the smaller cams. I wonder how much "porting" the heads and IHs have. Probably not as much as current day work. So could better porting and bigger cams get the 368 over the level Pete has on his 350? And how about the ROI on that.

Yeah, I studied that too. The cubes are adding to torque - no doubt in the mid range. (Then again, Pete's RWTQ is above 400 with his 5.7L) If I recall correctly, my RWTQ is 378 at 5200, but peak hp is 432. Doing the graphs in my head, I suspect the SGC 368's torque is falling on it's nose, somewhere above 60-6200 rpm. So, porting AND cams of yore come into question. But, it's pretty amazing what "some people" have accomplished in the past decade (since that 20 year old stuff was done...;))

Cubes will always make more torque.

Dom,it's been a while i can't remember what cams were in it.
That would be a pretty sad 368 if it had cams.

The differance between doing a 368 ($12-$15k) or just top end port work on a 350 i would estimate half price.

I did a compression check on the cold engine that hadn't been run for a week.

I put the battery charger on to keep the battery topped off (battery ordinarily has a Battery Tender on it full time.

I pulled all the plugs, and they all looked identical; whitish with ever so slight amount of brownish tint.

I ran the starter for 6 compression strokes each

Compression** (all the plugs out except the one with the meter) ran between 195 and 205, except one was 185.

**Note: the plug with the lower compression was the #3 hole; the one where the coolant burst through the IH wall as result of it being thin due to some porting. Marc said it might well be due to the fact that the chamber may have been well decarbonized by the coolant. Maybe.


Am currently running an oil consumption test, tho there is no smoking that I can see at idle.


WINTER PROJECTS: Which brings me to another winter project: An oil catch can. I currently am not entirely satisfied with the ones I've seen: too pricy, or obtrusive, or both! I kinda like the ones Bob and Al came up with for their big inch motors; approx one pint capacity, custom can that sits down by the driver's side headlight. The plumbing is such that you would hardly notice it; taking advantage of the stock piping (as I recall) so as not to clutter the view of the powder coated motor with plumbing. (Looks nice as you don't see it!)

Paul, I agree with you entirely. Al, Bob G catch cans look great, I was looking at Al car in bowling green it was a clean install that looks like it was factory installed. I am also looking at Radium oil catch cans as they use a Stainless steel condenser to remove the oil. No junk media to break apart.
