Re: Headlight door won't close all the way

The plastic bushings in the actuator mechanism have turned to dust.
Time to remove the headlight unit and replace the bushing.
It's not particularly difficult, but expect to spend a couple of hours.
The bushings are over the counter at your local parts store, cost you a couple of bucks.
Here's a YouTube video on the repair:

If you were local, I'd offer to help for the price of six pack and good company.

Yes just use the adjustment knob on the side of the headlight housing

While we're on the subject, one of the actuator gears in Ami's lights got brittle and some teeth sheered off, causing the motor to free spin. Some say I should have stuck with new nylon gears and bushings, but I opted for the bronze gears and grease.

That car gets fewer than 1000 miles per year, and most of that in daylight. So, I doubt that is a fair comparison. But, just sayin...it is an option to nylon!

Waking this thread up.. Do you put grease where the delrin bushings ride? I see some videos that do and maybe one that doesn?t. I see that you grease the outside of the nylon gear, not sure of the inside of the nylon gear. It?s difficult to press the gear on the shaft without grease inside..
