Strange E-mail

Got this E-Mail this morning from an E-mail Address Brett (Henderson) uses.....do not know what to make of it as it definitely appears like a SCAM and first clue is seems not at all like Brett is talking...

Anyone Else get this E-mail??....If so maybe someone stole Brett's Laptop or Cell Phone. Whoever it is, they definitely have Brett's E-mail and My E-mail.

Good Morning,

I really hope you get this fast as i could not inform everyone about my trip. This message is coming to you with great depression due to the state of my discomfort. I'm presently in Manila, Philippines, I came here for a conference and I just had my bags stolen from me and personal belongings. I have been trying to sort things out with the necessary authorities, the bad news is my flight will be leaving very soon. I need some assistance from you.

Please let me know if you can help..

Brett

It is a SCAM......so Beware....and if anyone ever sends any of you an e-mail like this one from me with my e-mail account.....tell them to &(@#*&$(*)@&^ themselves :D

Re: Strange E-mail

SCAM !!!

someone has gotten Brett's email, possibly from a hacked computer that had Brett's email address on it and not necessarily directly from Brett. however, it's a good idea for Brett to change his password on the email account that is being spoofed and it doesn't hurt to change ALL of your passwords on a regular basis.

if you do receive one of these and it doesn't seem quite right, then it probably isn't; if you're still concerned and you are able to call the other party, do so, if for no other reason than piece of mind that everyone is OK and you're not losing your mind.

depending on your method of checking email (webmail, Outlook, Apple mail, etc.) then you should be able to look at the actual address of the email's origination point and most likely you will find the spoofed email is really coming from the far east, africa, or eastern europe.

a good email practice is to only email between two parties. if you must use CC then keep it to a very small group. if you need to send an email to a larger group then always use BCC so that all the email recipients' addresses won't end up on a multitude of computers.

Re: Strange E-mail

Ha, sounds like one of my Nigerian clients talking. Have fun with it.....string them along and tell them you will send them money. Then after a few back and forth emails I tell them that by good luck I am traveling to the same country and rather than sending them funds by Western Union, I will bring them cash. I will come with my US Marine friends who guard the US Embassy. Just give me an address to meet....:)
That ends the conversation.

They didn't tell you about the "black syph" with no cure? If you got it, they just shipped you to a small island with the others to let you die.

When the guy suggested he had "great depression due to the state of his discomfort" I was thinking what a BIG Sissy......and I knew that was not Brett :D

Having Great Depression just is not something associated with anyone who has a ZR1 with that LT5 :sign10:

That's a story us fleet sailors spread around to keep you marines out of our favorite places. It worked so effectively that for a while they didn't even have bother training that area of medicine to the corpsmen the navy were sending over to the Marine Corps.

Hey Glen,
While you at it, I lost all my money at a casino & need gas & dinner money to get back home. $2,500 should do it. ( I don't wanna go to Pendelton though, already been there)

So true.
Reminds me of a friend that's always saying "Have you ever seen someone riding around on a jetski, not laughing and smiling? ...never.

Hope Brett is doing well wherever he is ...regardless I'm calling dibs on the Dymags anyways.

Black Syphilis
A pseudo-legendary STD with a probable origin in East Asia. According to hearsay the malignant virus manifests many of the same symptoms as standard syphilis, but does so with alarming speed and terminality. Unfortunately, there is no known treatment or cures for Black Syphilis. According to fable, the tertiary phase of the disease results in the infected decay of one's genitals, and in men, will supposedly cause the penis to eventually rot off.

Rumor of the disease’s existence first circulated among US military personnel occupying post-WW2 Japan in the late 1940s and later during the Korean War. The myth of Black Syphilis proliferated throughout the Asian world and among American military personnel during the Vietnam conflict, although strangely very few known bonifide cases have been medically documented. Today the disease is rumored to exist primarily in Thailand. In the American military, it is rumored that should a person contract the dreaded disease abroad that they would be forbidden from reentering the US.
Stay out of the brothels in Bangkok! If you get the Black Syphilis they won't let you back home!

Re: Strange E-mail

Definitely a scam. FYI: my parents were just victimized by the "Grandparent Scam." Google it if you are not familiar with it but very similar except this is via phone call. It is going around so alert your friends and family, especially the elderly. An imposter called pretending to be my nephew who is currently stationed in the mid-East with the USAF. Needed help -- car accident -- broken nose, reason he sounded different. Needed $ for bail as he went to friend's wedding in Domincan Republic and got in an accident after having a couple of drinks and was jailed for DUI. Shhh... don't tell anyone because I'm too embarrased and don't want my parents to find out. My parents fell for it and unfortunately have learned a $4000 lesson.
