I Think he means on the ZR-1.

A member here bought them and was doing the install on his Z.

You are exactly correct. You would figure by now the headers would be on the Z or sent back. I'd like to know how they worked out......:icon_scra

Re: Did the OBX headers fit or what???

Just received the set I ordered last weekend, and they look like a really good quality header. They took great care in packing them, and included header gaskets with them. The welds are all very clean, and the individual exhaust ports look like they've been cleaned up by hand. Even if they are quite as good as SW, for the price they are a very nice product, and have to be WAY better than the stock 91 manifolds that are on my car right now.

Have to get them coated, and then take the car down to Corey's so, I probably won't have mine on for 3-4 weeks, but I'll make sure to post Corey's impressions when I get it back.

Thanks and look forward to see what "you" think of them. The fit I'd like to hear what Cory finds out.

Re: Did the OBX headers fit or what???

The Tranny is in my drive shaft is rebuild, I started on some beam plates, and I removed the old factory headers(That was a BI#%CH). But I have not touched the OBX headers yet for a test fit, we have entered our heavy part of our autocross season and I have been swamped with my track cars repair and adjustments.

Dave,
I understand the delay with all you have going on. Another member has a set, too, so between you and him we'll get the scoop on the OBX header issue.
Get ready cause next week the real cold weather will be paying us a visit. Hang tough

That's why I live in the southern tip of Texas all we ever have is sun and warmth in varying degrees. Its also the reason why I have so many projects ;). You never have too shovel sunshine.

High of 17 is a bit much for central Texas.

When I was in Tech school in Chanute I can remember marching with a leather face mask to keep my face from freezing. Now that was a bit cool by Illinois standards.

Wow it gets that low in Texas? Neverwould have thought that

Re: Did the OBX headers fit or what???

Does not stay that cold for very long but with the added wind chill factor it sure gets your attention. Sure makes me appreciate the kerosene heaters in my shop. Keeps it a toasty 60 on the very cold days. Working all day while seeing your breathe is a real experiance. I know this deserves a :-({|=

Re: Did the OBX headers fit or what???

Dave,
Thanks for the update and looking good. What is the "pipe" welded onto the pipe in pic #8? Nice work!

mgbrv8 05-26-2011 09:11 AM

Re: Did the OBX headers fit or what???

Its a air tube port I think. I ended up machining a stainless plug in the lathe and pressfiting it in and then capturing it with a pin. Only one of the headers has one, the passenger side.

Thanks. Thought that might be the reason for it but was not sure. So there is nothing to hook up to it? What year are you putting them on? Thanks again.......

They sound great! Nice throaty sound, I have flowmaster exhaust. I could feel the additional HP too! Very happy... I will post a few pics...

How I shortened 3 of the bolts to fit below tight bends

Slotted the flange below the first pipe on the right side.

George's custom dip stick was the icing on the cake!

The Bosch aftermarket o2 sensor came with 18" leash and custom splice block that took care of the need for extension on the right side... Did not have to unplug the connection, just cut wire and splice. left side fit with no extension.

I used the stage 8 bolts and was able to get all 32 in with the clips, they worked great and were economical.

Wow, don't know how I missed this. The pics look awesome. Is there any update on performance or issues with them? Looks like another affordable mod for the Z

Thanks

Re: Did the OBX headers fit or what???

if i can't find a used set of headers i may go with these

Re: Did the OBX headers fit or what???

Go with them, i've sold a few sets for customers and everyone fit perfect.

Excellent value for money!

They also have the full exhaust now, anyone tried on yet?

Re: Did the OBX headers fit or what???

Why did it look as if the D/S header hung lower than the P/S in one of the previous posts? I am assuming these are 2" primaries?

Torchred96 11-16-2011 12:49 PM

Re: Did the OBX headers fit or what???

How hard are the headers to install? Are all the bolts accessible and what type of bolts are those that you used?

thanks

I just bought a set of OBX's and I plan to have them Jet Hot coated.

Re: Did the OBX headers fit or what???

I installed a set of OBX, with WAZOO help, on a 94. I love them!
I had a chance to compare OBX to SW side by side. All tube bends are pretty much identical. Only difference is OBX collectors are about 10" forward and OBX comes w/ glasspacks that looks like metallic cats. These glass packs can be replaced w/ metallic cats if needed w/ minor mod. Cats should work better since being closer to exhaust ports should heat up better.
Quality is as good as any other headers I have seen.

Re: Did the OBX headers fit or what???

Did the dip stick tube need relocated for OBX?

I assumed that it would since we used a relocation piece when we did the last install which was SW.
Yes - I used a relocation bracket and all went smoothly. Also used Stage 8 bolts.
By the way -do yourself a favor and get a set of gaskets from Jerry's. OBX gaskets are 8 rectangular individual pieces - one per port. Got to be a real PITA to use.

Thanks for the tips. Pete will be doing the install, so I bet he already has a parts list for me to buy.

Cool! I am sure Pete is well prepared.
I am so impressed w/ OBX header quality I just might try out their stainless steel exhaust too.

I saw their exhaust. Good price. Just don't know how restrictive it is??????? Looks nice.

Re: Did the OBX headers fit or what???

Hey Kevin, why would you look for a used set...they sure arent going to be any cheaper than these. The way I see it, a company that makes a quality product at an affordable price is a win win for all. why not support them?

Secondchance, thanks for the tips and report.. These are definitely on the buy list as soon as I get the top end finished.
