Oil pump type?
Does anybody know if the pump is a gerotor or gear design, or have pictures of the inside of the oil pump? Just courious.

Re: Oil pump type?
In the FSM the blow up picture shows a gear within a gear type. Isn't that a gerotor type pump vs the old fashioned meshed gear type in the old sbc motors?

Re: Oil pump type?
Thanks for the info where to find it. I didn't see it in the supplement and didn't think to look in the big book. I think your right, looks like a gerotor.

That's some flow:jawdrop:and thanks for the picture, that must be part of the reason these lt5's are hard to break.

How was rebuilding the pump? Was it something hard to do? I am thinking of doing the same thing to mine. |

Here is a post I did on a blog about the rebuild if it will help you. http://blogs.yahoo.co.jp/corvettezr1....html?m=lc&p=4 The page before towards the botton explains the carbon seal replacement and that is vital; thanks to Jerry for all his technical advice on this and recommending the new seal: http://blogs.yahoo.co.jp/corvettezr1....html?m=lc&p=3 To be honest, I think I was being very anal when rebuilding mine and I can't even imagine how these could fail other than the carbon seal side? I am sure I would have been fine, but since I was doing a rebuild it seem the right thing to do and hardly worn inside from visual inspection. Just old school and when rebuilding the SBC or BBC I used to always put in a new oil pump. Since I had a new OEM late model pump I just swapped the guts out to be able to sleep at night and hopefully with all the redline WOT the LT5 will stay together. Best wishes. Craig |

Sure, I don't mind but there surely are tons of others that you would be much better off consulting with. The timing of the motor is quite easy after the first time, but you definitely don't want to attempt it alone and I even did it a second time with the motor in the car (I highly discourage it, even though I did it) after I has some issues from another source......long story. Thanks to all the folks sharing those fact sheets on Registry even I was able to do it and you will be able too. You will just do like me and be paranoid to check everything several times. I can't remember how many times the motor was turned over to confirm my timing settings after degreeing it them in. Best wishes!!! Craig |

Thanks for your kind words and thoughts as always. I appreciate it and for those that don't know, Cliff wanted me to share those posts in my Yahoo Japan blog a long time ago and I was against it even if it is public information. I guess in time I have thought if it can help someone that is just great. Sometimes the most information can come from those who we think know the least. I think it was just a matter of someone wanting to share since many that do have the knowledge just don't have the time to or desire to. I also think that the only reason why I posted there versus elsewhere is no one gives me crap or negative comments. You my friend, have made so many more contributions than me in the short time you have been with the Registry so my hats off and salute to you. I wish I was as smart as you. Boy, when I look back at that time I wonder how I found the time to post all of that? I am glad I did because I have already had to go back and use it as reference since I have such a short memory.....:blahblah: Take care, Craig |
