Z06 Brakes getting ready for install
http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x...6Brakes002.jpg
http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x...6Brakes001.jpg Getting adapter today so the Brembos will be going to their new home soon. The Z06 rotor is clearly "flatter" than the Brembo and that should pull wheels and tires closer to fender well. The Brembos require longer wheel studs so that's being changed too. |
Re: Z06 Brakes getting ready for install
Massive stopping distance difference with the 6 pistons....I was reading an article last night on C6 base model vs Z06/ZR1
25-30 ft from 60 and 45ft from 80 |

Re: Z06 Brakes getting ready for install
Dave,
I'm using the stock GS pads for now. Lots of meat left on those bones. How do you like the decal? Lee, To quote that birther Trump, these brakes are HUGE! |
Re: Z06 Brakes getting ready for install
Dominic I was impressed when I picked them up, now they look GREAT. And guys, those things are huge.

Might want to sell the used padlets and get ceramic. Those padlets will dirty up your calipers in the first few hours guaranteed. Performance of the OEM pads in superb though. As long as you don't mind cleaning the calipers, keep them on David |
Re: Z06 Brakes getting ready for install
WJust some camparison of the Z06 and Brembo rotors
Here's the diameter difference http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x...6Rotors001.jpg And here is the height difference. Its about 1.5". Square is resting on top of Brembo rotor hat surface. This is one reason I went to the Z06 rotors. The Brembo is a taller rotor and so pushed out the Z06 wheel further past the fender line. I did a quick test fit and the Z06 wheel will be nearly flush with the fender. http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x...6Rotors002.jpg |
Re: Z06 Brakes getting ready for install
So I guess you have to use 18 in. rims? I'm just curious on what changes had to be made? Thanks for the write up...

Some perspective for sizing
The Z calipers needed a bit of modding in order for the adapters to fit. No biggie.
Also a couple of pics showing the size of the brakes relative to the fender opening. These things are pretty big. http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x...earance001.jpg http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x...earance002.jpg http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x...Install001.jpg http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x...Install002.jpg |
Re: Z06 Brakes getting ready for install
Question?
Will I need to bleed ALL the brakes or just the fronts? |
Re: Z06 Brakes getting ready for install
Get some speed bleeders .It only takes a second to bleed them and a good idea to keep the fluid fresh anyway.
Those Calipers are huge! Nice! |
Re: Z06 Brakes getting ready for install
Interestingly, each side has its own bleeder.
|
Re: Z06 Brakes getting ready for install
Now thats a big brake setup! GC
|
Re: Z06 Brakes getting ready for install
Looks like I need to "shim" the caliper in order to center the rotor in the caliper.
Haven't checked passenger side yet. |
Re: Z06 Brakes getting ready for install
Here's a pic of the difference in offset for the Brembo and Z06 rotors. Pretty significant which should make the Z06 wheel tuck in nicely. You can also note the difference in thickness.

Re: Z06 Brakes getting ready for install
I would definatley bleed the entire system. Start with he right rear, left rear, right front, left front. ATE fluid is not a bad choice. It is inexpensive works well. I have used it in my race car for years. I would suggest the gold color rather than the blue. It is easier to tell if it is dirty with the gold. Hope you like the brakes. Congrats!

Re: Z06 Brakes getting ready for install
next you will want the 4 piston Z06 brakes for the rear

Re: Z06 Brakes getting ready for install
Dom I dont suggest the Speed Bleeders as they have a tendency to leak. I suggest bleeding the outside first then the inboard. I suggest you bleed all the old fluid out. Suggest using a turkey baster to get the old fluid out of the reservior first. GC

Re: Z06 Brakes getting ready for install
I don't mean to change the thread , ( I wont :) but I was having a goofy idea today & I always ask the stupid questions, But has anyone thought about a dual caliper set-up? I'm sure the rear would be easier since it doesn't turn , ( I know the front does most of the stopping) . But I was thinking about the gentlemen here that do cnc work etc . I should be easy to make a bracket that would mount up .. This way po boi's like me wouldn't have to change rim -tires,calipers etc . Just an Idea- I know- I we todd did .
