Re: What Does a Forum Do for You?

To me it's the idea of sharing the knowledge, pain and pleasure of ownership is what the forum is about.

I choose to fix rather than yank. I choose not to put the playing card on the spokes like I did when I was 10 but revel in reading the accounts of those that do. My car is somewhere between a NCRS garage queen and a full on NASCAR race ready bling mobile complete with stick ons that look like headlights. :dancing

Secondaries (fixed by me)
ZF6 (rebuilt by me)
FX3 (fixed by me)
Clutch plate, stock (installed by me)

Fuel pump switch added to the test lead (by me)
DRM chip (bought by me :)
Corsa Exhaust (same thing as putting a playing card on my spokes.....added by me)

Next project is to replace the under hood lights with LED lights.
They'll be brighter and use 1/50th the power.
LONG LIVE THE ZR-1 and those that keep her going!

Well you've heard of WAZOO and FBI ?
Well ME is "My Entertainment"
Everything fix, replace, rebuilt, added or repaired by "my entertainment".
In fact the only time the car has ever been in someone's shop is for dyno, new tires or an alignment.
All the screw-ups are mine too :censored:

Re: What Does a Forum Do for You?

Wow! My list is pretty short it seems!

ball joints
Spicer U-joints
trans seal
Fidanza aluminum FW
sprung - hub clutch disc
new ZR-1 pressure plate
plenum, IHs, heads ported (by me) according to FBI models
Haibeck chip and tune
Cam timing by Pete the Greek and Bob G
C-beam plates (love 'em)
Stainless works 2" primary LT headers
Stainless Works "x" pipe
3" exhaust tubing to Magnaflow muffs (reminds me...I need to get with Al to install the DynaMax and tips he's holding for me...)
new red carpet with black accents
standard 95 Vette black seats (hated the 90 sport seats - a personal thing)
cooling fan and fusible links
chrome A-molds
sans secondaries

Comming attractions:

63mm TB
4.10 rear gear
fresh Nittos (555s, methinks)
391 cid AES conversion (long way off just now, less I hit the lottery)

This forum and the BG Gathering have helped me to make some good friends and absorb all I can about the ZR-1.

It's also interesting to see the views of others when it comes to modding vs no modding.

Nice mod that can be easily done. In addition to the single factory hood support gas strut some of us have installed a pair of earlier C4 style gas struts to help carry the hood weight.
http://i540.photobucket.com/albums/g...utphotojpg.jpg

GM kept installing the bracket hardware after switching to the single long hood strut.
You can picked up the Sachs SG430011 struts off ebay for $8.53 ea.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/120933386149? ... _trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649

90 hoods still have the strut attaching studs and all you need are the struts and retainer clips.
Later hoods you have to improvise the studs like I did in the photo above.
I used four 30 x 8 mm black oxide button head allen bolts and nylock nuts picked up at the local Sears HW store.

Thanks Phil. My 90 has these. A PO must have put in the shocks. I didn't realize that later C4s didn't have these as my 85 has them.

Phil beat me to the response but he is 100% correct. Heres is mine installed. The early 80s C4 had these but they stopped before the 90s. I scavanged the hardware from and earlier C4 and the shock is dirt cheap. GC

They do if they are new. They only last a few years before they wear out. Probably one of the reasons GM replaced the Guillotine style 2 piece hood brace with the large pneumatic shock in the first place. With our hood shock and these mini shocks in place lifting the hood is almost effortless. GC

I agree. I replaced the ones on my 85 and it did make a difference. One of the "mini shocks" I replaced could be easily compressed by hand .. they do wear out.

Re: What Does a Forum Do for You?

This forum opened the door to a new world for me. The WAZOO gang first made contact with me when I first purchased the Z. They got me to Carlisle where I met my new brothers who gave me recommendations on what the car needed to get back to 100%. It looked good but was not running like it should. I would not have be able to enjoy (or afford all the repairs/mods) on my Z without the help and knowledge of WAZOO. This is a very special group of guys who introduced me to the Permigrin!!

Re: What Does a Forum Do for You?

For me, the Registry Forum is the source of all information about enjoying and maintaining my ZR-1's.

The Forum is just the right balance between rapid communication and long-term archive.

I learn a lot by reading the posts of other people's questions and answers. I even learn things that I didn't know that I didn't know. ;)

Being able to tap into the power of several hundred knowledgable and experienced people is an amazing thing. I value the open and cordial atmosphere that exists on the Registry Forum.

Re: What Does a Forum Do for You?

I agree with Jim except I DID know what I didn't know and was floundering around trying to get help when I found the Registry.

It also means that even living half a world away from most of the members I can still feel like I am a part of the group and the camaraderie is greatly appreciated.

Another big part to me was finding supporting vendors (read that as Jerry) who will work with me on my shipping issues. You would be shocked at how many companies out there just don't want to bother with overseas shipping. I am sure they have their reasons but it is hard to swallow at times.

Yeah THIS forum does a lot for me. I only hope in some way I can return the help and friendship given to me.:handshak:

What Does a Forum Do for You?

For me the forum is the most useful tool. Another major plus is the people here and throughout the club that make up the fourm. One would be hard pressed to find better.
