Sandy Hook

FYI, there is a corvette link to this tragedy.

The Tues. night cruises we used to have in Newtown at Burgerittoville are right down the road from Sandy Hook Elementary. The school is about 1 mile east of where we met off I-84 Exit 10.

My town is an emotional wreck, this is extremely difficult to get through. We know 3 of the devastated families and many, many more that were much more fortunate to be able to hug their children. My children are older, but 3 of them went to that school. They are pretty distraught as are my wife and I.

Thank God for the first responders and the brave teachers and administration who prevented a much worse situation.

The Corvette link is not a direct ZR-1 link, but related to my local car club, Candlewood Valley Corvette Club.

Janet Vollmer and Bill Vollmer are members of the club. Janet is a teacher and hero from Sandy Hook Elementary. In the midst of all the chaos, she locked down her classroom, put her children in a safe position, and read them stories until help arrived. Janet's professionalism and quick actions saved the lives of her class.

Just thought you guys would like to know this. Bill was always present at the Tues. night Burgerittoville cruises and has stopped by our ZR-1 tent at Carlisle many times.

Please pray for those affected by this horror.

God, please bless, and save a special place for the heros there that day.

Nearly unimagineable to fathom a beautiful 6 year old with 11 bullets in them. As a parent it is the unthinkable. Our hearts are broken.

I STILL can't watch a TV spot with kids in it and not think of what happened. I change the channel on anything related. I have my
head squarely planted in the sand and that's where I want it.
I'm traumatized as I think the nation is.:icon_scra

Scott, Thanks for posting this. The principal was from Naugatuck, and there was a very moving vigil Tuesday night for her and her family.

One of my wife's co-workers on the DFD was actually on site helping with triage. He is a very strong guy, and I understand this has messed him up pretty well too.

Re: Sandy Hook

Children being executed with hollow point rounds while hiding in a closet for protection can do that to you. The shooter wore body armor and was heavily armed to attack defenseless women and young children; he then shot himself when the first responders showed up. The biggest coward in history. I can only imagine the horror at the scene.

I told myself I would not cry on the way into work this morning. On Route 302 at the Bethel border someone put up a sign that says "Bethel is grieving with our Newtown neighbors" and I lost it again.

On a positive note, the amount of help and the people that have descended on our town to help is amazing. You can hardly move. There are over 500 people working on the Sandy Hook Elementary School move over to Monroe, CT. Phenomenal. Restores some hope I have for our future.

Re: Sandy Hook

There are a lot of positives to be found in this unthinkable and horrific event. It is too bad it takes something like this to bring out all the good. But you are right, I am seeing an outpouring love, care, and comfort from the community for these people.

Don't feel bad about crying. We all are doing it.

Can the NE Beast Owners do something this spring for Newtown?

Re: Sandy Hook

Would be a nice gesture. Not sure yet what is needed...maybe things will become clearer in the Spring.

Re: Sandy Hook

I just went to my son's Christmas music program in his school. He's in first grade. At 9:30 AM we paused for a moment of silence. I could hear all of the church bells ringing, and as I looked at about 300 kindergartners to 4th graders there, I had a tough time keeping it together.

Count me in for anything if we can do something.

I'm in for anything. Maybe a Corvette ride through town?

I would be happy to support a NE activity next spring. Any ideas are appreciated.

What ever you guys think would be of service to the Newtown community, count me in on it. Keep me in the loop.

Re: Sandy Hook

Right now, there is plenty of support. Doing something in the Spring would be very appropriate. Please noodle on ideas....

Road is still closed near the school. The memorials in Sandy Hook Center are unbelievable. Looks like several 53' trucks delivered flowers, stuffed animals, signs of support, candles, etc. Piles and piles of stuff everywhere. The outpouring of support is astounding.

In front of the school with the 26 decorated Christmas trees is even more amazing.

I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas with their families. I know I hugged my kids a little more often and tighter than usual.
