Ooooo! She luvs cold air!!
Took the ol girl out to stretch her legs. Temps at 19ºF...temp up to snuff, shift into 2nd and row the gears. Wow! That shift light comes on quick!
Man...Is it spring yet??? Can't wait!!:o |
Re: Ooooo! She luvs cold air!!
Paul, I did the same thing last week....twice!!!
Not much sticky back there but it sure was nice to hear that roar and feel that giddy-up. Can't wait for BG!!!! |
Re: Ooooo! She luvs cold air!!
Wish I could.

Re: Ooooo! She luvs cold air!!
Paul, that had to be fun. Cant wait until spring gets here.

Re: Ooooo! She luvs cold air!!
Yes give those valves dense air and look out. Mine is on jack stands right now. Getting rear calipers polished since I am replacing brake hoses and fluid.
|
Re: Ooooo! She luvs cold air!!
Dominic, you're going to have the best looking brakes around.

The calipers are the stock ones. curious to see how they look polished out. Should get them back Monday or Tuesday. I am still thinking about what color to paint the abutment bracket for the, red or black? Would love to have done the C6Z rears but I don't have Dave Johnson money. ;) |
Re: Ooooo! She luvs cold air!!
The fronts came out great, post up pics of the rears when done.

Mine too is soon to be down for a little while - long enough to make a few changes. Looking to break the NA 440 rwph on stock cams "barrier".;) We'll see, and I'll let ya know how it goes!! P. |
Re: Ooooo! She luvs cold air!!
Holy crap that's good power. I may buy you a beer and pick your brain at BG.

[QUOTE=Paul Workman;164043]Brett... Ever notice how quick these things can turn what looks like a smooth country blacktop into a lasagnea noodle??? :jawdrop:
Paul, Interesting you said that about the road. I'm still getting used to the rate of acceleration and the very high speeds the car can run. 0-110 mph now is very comfortable for me to handle and experience but the one time so far that I ran it hard on a 2.3 mile long country stretch with no driveways, intersections, straight and flat good paved road up to around 140 mph it all seemed very fast, I wondered at the time whether the road was more crowned than I thought and while it worked okay, for me the 205 fps all had tiny elements of being just a little bit of a blur as a first time experience. Since then I've gone back to that stretch several times and run it not like a drag strip run getting to speeds in a hurry but taking my time and watching the road, fx3 set in race and gaining experience above 100 mph to 125 mph or so several times. What a difference to my relative inexperience that has made, more time to sort of process and incorporate the experience better for me. I now am just focusing on the driving experience and the road and getting very used to 110-125 mph. I run it one way, drive a little north on sunny days then come back a little later and run it the opposite direction. I know it's just gaining experience I had never had before but the car handles perfectly and the difference between handling it in a rush and doing it this way has allowed me to get much more comfortable driving the car at these speeds. It will bode well as a base of experience for getting on it both faster and, as safe, at the higher speeds. I doubt I'll ever drive it above 150 mph but I'd like to do that a few times. 140ish was pretty awesome. Probably something that new people go through but your comment about the road is so true....it now looks nice and flat with little crown and is much more an experience on good road than I thought fleetingly that first time. The road didn't change, it was me getting used to a motor and car that will flat haul *** especially once you get into third gear.......The ZR-1 continues taking me to school...... I think I read somewhere that when you buy a 2013 ZR-1 you are encouraged to go to a driving school first before tapping that 638 hp. I can see why that might be so now. |

That alone must tell you there's way more capacity in that motor than stock. And the simple porting results are another. |

Im always worried to drive mine in below freezing temps.

Rarly does Bertha go out without hitting triple digits.

Re: Ooooo! She luvs cold air!!
Paul may live next to the Ndiana state cop shop and he is kidding tho the idea to be careful is good advice. I want to see all that power with 4:10 in the rear end at .B.G!

Re: Ooooo! She luvs cold air!!
Brett, you've got Pete's cams, right? I was told to ask you how you like them. I'm kicking around my next jump. Did you do both intake and exhaust?
|
Re: Ooooo! She luvs cold air!!

Yes and Yes. I love them. Pete's tune and cam position timing has a nice smooth idle as well. The sound and feel is addicting. Doing the same thing when we build the 427. |
Re: Ooooo! She luvs cold air!!
Did you dyno before and after? Any idea what kind of power you picked up?

I'll be buying my stroker crank this Summer and plan to build the motor next Winter. In the mean time, I'm going to have the stroker motor's plenum siamesed and a full port job done to the heads and IH's. |
Re: Ooooo! She luvs cold air!!
So, if I'm already at 520ish chp I could get up to maybe 540-545 you think?
|
Re: Ooooo! She luvs cold air!!
I'm actually probably closer to 510-515 right now depending on what percentage you use for driveline loss (let's no get started on that again). Either way, you think I could pick up 20-25 chp?

How-some-ever, I bought a new helmet and am looking forward to seeing what she'll do in the half mile run in June! I'm at 432 rwhp (see my signature for details) but have a stock TB and muffs (Magnaflow) that choke down from 3" pipe to about 2-1/2" abruptly. I'm chasing 8 hp to get to 440 at the wheels...on stock cams...which I hope makes a statement for the potential of our LT5s, and the DOHC architecture. So porting the TB to 63mm, changing the muffs to the Dynamax, and some other stuff the FBI gang and I are collaborating on...we'll just have to see! But, I gotta say, if she was sucking 19º air, I might have experienced that "440" mark already. (Seat-of-the-pants would surely testify to that!!) P. |
Re: Ooooo! She luvs cold air!!
Paul, you are exactly right...got my references mixed up.
If I had been slowly building my experience base at triple digits on a country 2.3 mile long isolated, no driveways flat and straight road it would be fun to report that 125 to 140 mph is getting much more comfortable and familiar. But then, we all know that's going 85 mph over the state speed limit so that must just be a rich expression of a fantasylife, right? I'm sure a lot of us will get to interact in Bowling Green from all over and I want to see and hear some of these tuned cars with the power at your disposals. I haven't seen the itinerary yet but I hope there is a part day cruise as part of it when there. Hope so, or a check drive. The June 1/2 mile in Chicago area I looked at the fliers for and it looks very interesting, there and in another location I think. You are doing it, Paul? Have someone video it for you if possible. You will be very competitive. With the 4:10 rear end will it keep you below 150 mph in the 1/2? Any references to compare it to for your own expectations? I can say that on the hypothetical 2.3 mile stretch mentioned above that it does not seem to take 1/2 mile or much over to get to the speeds I'm fantasizing about and I reference 3:45's and more or less stock lt5 that's just been chipped with Samco hoses and K and N air filter only so you should do way, way better. |
Re: Ooooo! She luvs cold air!!
Here's the site which you probably know about for the Georgia 1/2 Mile shootouts. wannagofast.com Georgia 1/2 mile shootout fall 2012
http://www.wannagofast.com/events.php Saw a smattering of LT5's on the video including one of Wayne Hale's two (I think his lingenfelter 415) that ran about 149mph. I think it was his resleeved one, not his twin turbo but can't remember what he told me when I talked to him about it. Go to www.wannagofast.com and click on results then on any of the dates, I picked Sept., and then there is a button to click on excel spread sheet of the five runs actual results. he's in there at #50 on the listing which is not by speed. His twin turbo is >700 hp and he only turns the boost up in third gear to keep the wheels from spinning off he told me. Fast. |
