.......... and just what I didn't really want to see.....
Went to the garage, and a nice pool of water underneath the engine of the ZR1.
What a pain!!! Funnily enough did not taste like coolant, actually just like water... but there was certainly a decent puddle, and it was under the engine... Anyway, sigh. Will enjoy my weekend nonetheless (have friends over) and had planned to replace the injectors next weekend... so looks like another bit of fun to be had too lol. Will have a look tomorrow to see where the water's come from - but ... sigh... I guess 22 years takes its toll along the way :( |
Re: .......... and just what I didn't really want to see.....
Did it run? Condensate from the AC? I can't think of any source of water.
|
Re: .......... and just what I didn't really want to see.....
Coolant you would definitely know. AC condensation from evaporator or windshield washer if that held water.
|
Re: .......... and just what I didn't really want to see.....
Did you drive the car and run the AC? I think you need to dig a bit deeper unless you run water only in your coolant system as there is no way to confuse coolant with water.

Re: .......... and just what I didn't really want to see.....
Or did you wash the car and hose down the radiator?

Re: .......... and just what I didn't really want to see.....
Well... had more of a look this morning, and I have no idea. It didn't taste like coolant, but I thought perhaps (I've only had this car since April) that perhaps the coolant mix was pretty weak. Anyway, quick finger dip into the coolant overview resevoir (which was reasonably full) dispelled that: yeuch. Sweet, and certainly coolant in there.
So whatever is on the floor is not coolant, at least. AC - no, the car had not been started for a week. Nor out in the rain ever... So, it would seem to be either a leak of the windshield washer fluid (assuming it had been filled only with water)... or a leak in the garage roof (which I couldn't see any evidence of) right next to the car! As the garage is over 60ft long and 20ft wide, it's very coincidental that the leak would happen to be just where the car was! All very strange! Anyway, car started, coolant was flowing fine, and I've moved it back 6 feet to see if a new puddle appears... I'd say the total water is about a pint, and it tastes just like fresh water - so I'm perplexed! But seems like nothing more serious. Not coolant is a good start! :-) |

Check your brake and clutch fluid levels.

I tasted the brake fluid once, didn't taste like water. ;)

Re: .......... and just what I didn't really want to see.....
You know all, in the back of my mind I remember filling the coolant reservoir and maybe I threw away the rest of the water. I also seem to remember thinking to myself that it was a dumb idea to throw it on the garage floor (it's a non-covered, sealed concrete slab base)... so maybe this whole thing has been a red-herring...
In other words, it looks likes water. Tasted like water (and certainly not coolant, or screen wash...), so I think it's the dumb ID-Ten-T here who has a hazy memory... :) |

It must be starting to get cold up in the North east early this year.

Re: .......... and just what I didn't really want to see.....
Last week I pulled up behind my Z, and saw wet stuff under the pumpkin. Thought I was lookin' at having to get a new gasket in the rear diff - great
Then I rubbed my finger on the driveway, in the stuff, and got a whiff. Nothing. Water??? Then I saw it drip from the spare shield drain hole. HEAVY rain the day before. But dripping 15 hours later http://www.zr1.net/forum/images/icons/icon5.gif Then I opened up the gas fill door. It was pooled almost completely over the tank cap. A junebug had gotten in the drain hole. (tank is full, so there wasn't any tank airspace to cool down and draw that water, I'm hopin' here; I pulled the trigger and ran it for a minute to check) |
