Least they're going to fill the hole in.

I think the pictures, videos, and damaged cars will clearly capture for the viewing public the damage that occured. Having the musuem restored to its former condition feels right. I doubt the "draw factor" of the sinkhole would sustain itself after several years anyway as most people that wanted to see it already would have. Its sad to see that the ZR-1 Spider and others won't be restored.

What a shame. I have offered to restore the car back to its glory and even had a discussion with a NCM person at Carlisle. I still intend to follow up. It needs to live.

The very least they can do is drop the Spyder back down in the hole before they fill it in,Im being serious here. What a shame.

I agree. Put the three cars that are past restoration back in the pit and create a shrine to them.

Why bury them. Warehouse them for occasional display. $$$$$ to be made!

Hope Blue Flame gets there car to restore. The problem may be that GM owns that car and you will be dealing with a massive organization which will likely make irrational decisions!

Re: The ZR-1 spider will not be restored

What the NCM / GM does not understand is the determination of the entire ZR-1 community to have the Spyder live. Brett is more than capable, and this project would have the full support and backing of the the rest of us. What a Win-Win this would be for both the NCM and GM.

We may need to get the NCM / GM to donate what is left of the Spyder to the ZR-1 Net Registry and allow us to see this through. What do they have to lose?

Then the Club could loan it back to the NCM for a permanent display with a plaque that reads "On loan from the ZR-1 Net Registry - Restored by Brett Henderson of Blue Flame Restorations".

I agree with everything but ownership. The NCM accepts ownership of the car,not any one private person, organization should have the car.If the frame of the car isnt tweaked too bad, considering the shape of the crushed prototype KOHs it can be done.Somebody needs to start a page on Facebook, save the Spyder!

Great idea. Wonder who one would talk to in GM who is in control of these "one off cars"? Attachment 3764

The photo was photo of spider taken yesterday at NCM. Don't know why it will not open?

I agree 100%, Mark!!

Would a delegation of Registry people to GM/NCM to make that case be something to consider??
?

It's a great idea ! I'm on board with the resurrection of the Spyder.

May I suggest , that we take this idea up in a Registry vote ?

Now that would be cool. However, I am in the camp of leaving the hole there with a glass roof or some kind of bridge and having several of the non-restorable cars in the hole for display.

if I wasn't getting a discount on insurance from the ncm I'd pull my membership if they did that. No car is non-restorable, all it takes is money

Re: The ZR-1 spider will not be restored

I too am all for the Spyder restoration.

The NCM voted to fill in the hole, because the large retaining wal (35ft tall) required to make the site safe, would make the attraction not look like a sinkhole anymore.
The "keep the sinkhole" was originally though to cost $500,000 more than the "repair the Skydome to original" option. However taking into account vapour barriers for humidity control, caused the difference to grow to $1,000,000.
