Service Manual Question
Anyone know where I can get a good deal for the service manuals for a 1991 ZR1? I saw the LT5 supplement on ebay but I'm not sure if that is an additional one for the regular lt5 book or if that is the whole engine book itself. And can you buy a normal 1991 corvette manual for the rest of the car or do you need a zr1 specific for everything besides the engine?

Re: Service Manual Question
I found both my Service Manuals (Book 1 & 2) along with the LT5 Engine Book for my 94 on ebay. You just have to keep checking for your year. And there isn't a specific ZR-1 manual(s) for any of the 90-95 Z's that I know about, just get the 91 Book(s), along with the LT5 supplement and you will be fine. And welcome to the forum, you will like it here......

Re: Service Manual Question
You only need to be sure you purchase both Book 1 & 2 for the '91MY and only those with red covers. Those that have white covers are "preliminary" release product and are considered to be incomplete. he "supplement" that you see is just that.
I would need to look but I may actually have both book 1 & 2 for a '91. I would need to unpack some boxes but I do believe I might. |
Re: Service Manual Question
The supplement is useful for a quick reference for LT5 information like fastener torques or the exact order in which to disassemble R&R various assemblies. All this information (and more) is covered in the big book set, but it is a lot faster to thumb through the "skinny book" when double checking something. I spent $15 to get mine, but not sure I'd spend anymore for the pleasure of owning one.
the two book sets were going for $65-ish a few years back, but sometimes are hard to find. check the other forum for sale area- I got a set that way. |

Re: Service Manual Question
I bought the paper copies on ebay kust in case i need certain photos or can't find someting from someone one day. $130 isn't bad for all 3 books.

Re: Service Manual Question
That's double what i paid 4-5 years ago for the 91 and the 95 book set I own. The manuals seem to be a better investment than the cars.

Re: Service Manual Question
I have the 3 originals along with a complete parts book , got them free when i bought 3 zr1s in 93.
if you want a copy let me know |
Re: Service Manual Question
Of course you want to get the RED book of the correct year. How-some-ever, I've got a white copy for my 90, and it hasn't let me down yet. (knock, knock...) (I DO have the RED engine supplement tho that came with the set.)
Not intending to steal the thread, but, here's a question for RED BOOK owners: Does your set also contain the "vin 8" material (vin 8 = the L98), or is it exclusive to the Z? My WHITE copy contains the standard mo. stuff as well, and I was just curious. |
Re: Service Manual Question
The red cover Field Service Manuals the I have (1990,1993,1994) all contain the VIN 8 as well as the VIN J sections.
I had a "white cover" version of one of the FSM at some point in the past, but it was missing sections, and the pages were not in order. I don't know if it was a preliminary publication or a poorly produced copy machine version. I got rid of it because it is frustrating enough to find some things in the FSM without the added frustration of the page you are looking not being there. Jim |
Re: Service Manual Question
As stated the orig manuals cover all the Corvette models.
The part explosions, in the parts book, are very helpful when doing stuff. |
Re: Service Manual Question
I bought all 3 red books for my 91 on ebay. 2 regular vette and lt5 of doom supplement. To answer your guys questions the white book was not the original mechanics a book that Chevy used the red one was the original service manual.
