Anybody in CA want to run headers? I need someone to buy these before I do.....

Re: California Headers
These have been on for months has no one noticed they are custom Callaway stainless exhaust manifolds with full size header tubes that dont neck down like the stockers?

Re: California Headers
Those would make a good template and business opportunity....If the proper tube stock could be obtained and some good welding skills applied... People could send their stock set and Im sure they could be modified to match the SNAT set.

Re: California Headers
If I could legally get these on my car I?d buy these but as of right now there are no headers for a ZR-1 that are legal in Ca.

Re: California Headers
How would they know these from GM, these might even be CARB certified, Callaway is a manufacturer so they have to EPA certify

Re: California Headers
If it was legal in Ca it would have EO then a part number. I did check to see if it had a C.A.R.B number and it doesn?t show up. Just out of curiosity I?ll check with Callaway.

Re: California Headers
Lee,I got in touch with Callaway and these are in fact exempt from C.A.R.B certification and are egal in California,so I bought them. I?m looking into the BB Fusion cat back system.

Re: California Headers
Now it gets a little strange. I ran the part number on these and they are GM parts numbers, that might explain the AC logo. It was at one point possible to buy these over the counter.

Re: California Headers
Congratulations on the find, Jeff!
I never heard of this before. I thought most companies didn't pursue CA CARB because of the time, cost, and AGGRAVATION! Let us know how different they sound and perform. Do you think they perform differently compared to conventional long tube headers? T |
Re: California Headers
That's what I thought until these popped up. These were sold over the counter also, would like to know what they went for new. Up until now I thought there were no headers legal in California, according to Callaway these pick up 15 HP. Now just need to find a place to work on the car,not looking forward to it but the end result will be well worth it.

Re: California Headers
Headers are not legal in CD, however, looking at the images my gut feeling is that you'd get though the smog check with those at most stations becuase they have stock cats and for a car that old the person doing the visual might not recognize them as non-OE.
But, it's moot at this point because the item has sold. Not a bad price either. |
Re: California Headers
Yes Jeff bought them ...

And, aesthetically speaking, one can only (barely) see the flanges and maybe 1/2" of the header tubes viewed from the open hood. You'd have to get under the car to appreciate their good looks! (But, I like the B&B FUSION approach tho!) Porting - invisible to inspectors - would be where my powder coating/wrapping money would go. YMMV! |
