Vetronix Tech 1A - Cartridges Required to Use

Bought a 1992 ZR-1 last year.

So far, no problems, but want to be prepared.

Someone offered me a Vetronix Tech 1A to purchase.

Have some questions about cartridges:
- exactly what cartridges are required to trouble shoot anything?
- important things I need to know about the Tech 1A?

Thanks in advance.

Mass Storage Cartridge ($175-250) with all updates is considered master cartridge, otherwise your having to collect various cartridges. There was a guy on eBay that will flash a mass cart if you find one.

George,

Appreciate the info about the Mass Storage Cartridge.

Please let me know if you recall the guy on eBay's username. Searched several times and couldn't find it.

Thanks,

Gary

#02002663 also works. It has multiple manufacturers on it including GM. #3000003 is GM specific. The SIR, Bosch ABS, ALDL terminal adapters are also handy. The SIR and ABS connectors (not cartridges) are needed to test those systems. The ALDL is a must have to hookup the Tech1 to the 90' to '94 cars. Somewhere in 94' they changed to the OBD2 connector. (Although not a true ODB2 system) Full ODB2 didn't come till 96', so never on a ZR-1.

Unfortunately there is no one answer to that question. The Tech1 is the GM unit and is integrated into the diagnostic regimen of the published factory service manuals. Therefore following the diagnostic trees in the FSM has a direct correlation. The SnapOn is a good unit but you may find that correlation to the FSM is not as direct and may not do everything the FSM requires.

Many of us use the Tech1 as described above and also use a more modern unit like ALDLDroid on an android tablet or TunerProRT on a laptop. ALDLDroid (and others) let's you datalog easily so that various parameters can be analyzed and recorded over time. There are a multitude of units that can do the job but not as completely as a Tech1. The flip side is that many of those other units are more user friendly that the Tech1.

I don't have any experience with the SnapOn unit, hopefully someone that has used it will chime in. I'm sure it will work just not sure what level of integration it has.

No problems so far with my '92, but want to be prepared. Anything year above a '67 Corvette is new to me.

Happy New Year! Thanks,
