Has anyone checked out this car? Ad says New York, owners name is John, Is this a scam?

SCAMMERS usually aren't as thorough in their information, I see nothing wrong with his ad other than price.

If the ad is legit then somebody has *ALREADY* gotten a 'smokin HOT deal.

I found it listed on Dec 30. I emailed for info, I did not hear back so I didn't think he was going to respond. I just found his reponse in my junk mail. Something smells fishy, seems to me it should have sold many times over by now.

The last line says " payment and shipping details ", this is definitely a scam!!!
There need not be any payment or shipping of the vehicle it should be cash and carry. Seller will tell you how he is in U.K. and his brother or friend will handle putting the car in some "secured transport companies care". You are required to send the money to some escrow company (usually half) where it will be kept until the car arrives and you will have three days to inspect and then send the balance of the money. REPEAT THIS IS A SCAM!!!!!

Got the same e-mail from "John Purcell", reminds me of all of the 2nd chance offers I used to get from Ebay.......too canned not to be a scam. Anyone know someone at the Postal Inspectors office? Setting up these types of clowns can be fun, I've done it a few times with my job in Insurance. LGAFF

Well guys that car lives in the town next to me......if it exists at all....would take me no more than 15 mins to get to him from my abode!:mrgreen:

If someone can set it up for this saturday I'll go look at it, just give me the contact info.....if this is legit:icon_scra

Can't go on sunday till late in the afternoon....got a cruise to go on early in the AM....no snow & clean streets, just can't resist & I need an attitude adjustment session anyway!;)

Yea Tree, I was trying to figure where in westchester county or yonkers that photo was shot. I figured it might give me a line on where I gotta go to eye up that car. Can't place the spot....but in truth I didn't look all that hard at the photo.:o

Tom, I seem to recall that a lot of EBAY guys were ripped off by some overseas scams using a phony "safe escrow site" as the tool to get buyer's $$.
Didn't this whole thread start with an EBAY listing?? If so, and if it's still listed, one of us should report it to EBAY security. They might track "honest John " down and clip his wings?

It was a Autotrader ad that one of the other guys pointed out.
I just decided to email the seller and play a little game of cat and mouse.
He's apparently pulled the ad, something must have scared him off.
His mistake for trying to sell such a rare car at such a low price. If it had been any other common car he probably could have hooked himself a few suckers.

It was fun and I was bored so what the heck.

Tell him you have a level 21 security clearance, and that you can get into any installation in the world ( even area 51 ), and that you probably know his superiors. Hell tell him he does not even have to be there just tell you what base it is on and you will inspect the car and then forward payment anywhere he would like. I would really like to see how he plays that one.
I have played with a lot of these scammers and this one from the sounds of it on a 1 to 10 basis, is probably a 4 but I still like to see how far I can bait them.

It would be worth sleeping on the couch for month or two!!:D:D

This is our car. We own it. Its sitting outside my window this very second. It is advertised on our website and on cars.com for $28500 asking price.

I have been notified by several concerned people about this SCAM artist. I have reported him to autotrader.com and had the ad removed.

I also emailed this crook posing as a buyer. he sent me pics and write up and his military story about how he is leaving the country..

ALL the pictures of the car are pics I took right across the street from our dealership.

SO NOBODY SEND THIS CREEP ANY MONEY!
