rigors of road racing
This will give you idea the beating my car takes at the track. This is a picture of my wheel weight. I forget to put a bead of silicone on the perimeter of the weight as I usually do.
On a high speed track my wheels run aprox 250 degrees. To check and adjust tire pressure requires gloves. My calipers that day where 400 degree front and 300 rear. http://memimage.cardomain.net/member.../418999_82.jpg |

Im using Wilwood calipers, Coleman rotors, Performance Friction 01 pads and 3 inch brake duct at the front. Front pads are .80 thick with 1 3/8" thick rotors. They take a beating and last quite long. Stock brakes would not handle that abuse. See my website for pictures and list of car setup.

Im impressed that they stayed on there!!! I throw weights all the time but must end up in a ditch somewhere.
I never thought of putting silicone on there. Great Idea!!! |
Mike, thats remarkable. I wanted to thank you for your encouragement and assistance earlier in the year in diagnosing my car and providing advice on HPDEs. I participated in a PCA event in June at Watkins Glen and thoroughly enjoyed myself. Its clear that I need at least some ducting to cool the breaks, though, as my stock setup faded badly after about 20 minutes.
Thanks again. |

If you think tires dont shift on the wheel, heres a picture showing what happens. All my wheels and tires get marked and all my wheel/tires shift if subjected to heavy use. Mounting is done with a soap lub only, not any silicone based crap that would probably have my tires spinning full circle.http://memimage.cardomain.net/member.../418999_84.jpg |
Re: rigors of road racing
Mike, I went to Watkins Glen with a NJ based chapter of the Porsche Club of America. A buddy of mine is in the PCA and they had some openings for non-porsches. It was a great time and reasonably priced.

Re: rigors of road racing
I plan to go 7/17/06 to Watking Glen with PDA. Interested? Most Porsche clubs only allow Porsche cars or non Porsche cars with a long time Porsche club membership in hand. Surprised you got in. Do you have a link to the Porsche club you mention?
