Scan tools?

I really wanted to get a Tech-I to do it up right on the ZR-1. But they rarely show up for sale. Also, they are kind of steep. I've been wondering if the ability to trigger stuff is actually very necessary or useful?

I have long looked at PC software, as I have a laptop. But looking at AutoXray, their EZ-Scan 6000 looks appealing. It's about the price of OBD-I and OBD-II software (from EASE for example), but would be more convenient than a laptop. The only downside is the recording, it can only hold 29 frames (as rapid as 2 frames per second up to one frame per 5 seconds). It has some PC hookup, but I think it's after the fact, I don't think you can use the PC to log infinite recordings.

Anyone have any experience with these? Worth it, or not? I like that I could use it on the 'vette, the OBD-II Regal and Aurora, and even on the beater 200SX.

What are you wanting to do? None of what you mention is tuning capable. If you are looking to see what is happening under WOT then a Wideband O2 with dataloging capability is needed, FJO makes a good setup.

If you want to then do tunig then TunerPro is probably your next step.

Depending on the year Todd P may have the calibration definition file you need to make the changes.
Your next move is education. Here is a good start.

Not tuning, troubleshooting. I definitely don't want to start burning my own PROMs. That's a good point about WOT logging, I guess the PCM info wouldn't be that useful for that.

I dunno, just seems like something useful to have.
