Oil Filters - Step In
Oil Filter Options:
I can only post 5 or 6 photos in one post. If anyone else has any filters, please post them. It appears that the Mobil 1 filter is not that great for our cars and expensive. Seems the consensus is the Bosch 3401 is popular, available and much less then the M1 oil filter which always seems to be out of stock also. I also like the Wix Filter and the Napa Gold and the PureOne, they all seem like quality filters, not sure about others. I typically run the Bosch or one of the original PF970s. http://contentinfo.autozone.com/znet.../3401/image/4/ http://www.mamotorworks.com/captions...433/614433.jpg The last time I got a "oil change with filter deal" at Advance, there were no Bosch Filters or Mobil 1. I picked up the Purolator PureOne PL 14619. Seems like a really good filter. Anyone have any experience with them? Here is a photo, yes I know it has to be the ugliest oil filter on the face of the planet. http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/wcs...9_pri_detl.jpg http://www.fleetfilter.com/mm5/graph...0001/51324.jpg http://www.mamotorworks.com/captions...571/609571.jpg |

I have all the PF 970, 970C filters, some retain oil better then others. Mainly looking for all the shelf stuff now. The PL14619 seems well built and the specs are impressive - its just kinda ugly. Can you show me a picture of the original blue Pure One's? Can you still buy them? Part #? Thanks. |
Re: Oil Filters - Step In
no the yellow replaced the blue to my knowledge

Re: Oil Filters - Step In
I was using the Bosch 3401 but switched to the FRAM TG3985 after reading the thread posted by Hans linked below.
I bought a few from Rock Auto and then found they were available locally as well. They have a light gray body and black top - I just spray them black and they look fine to me. http://www.zr1.net/forum/showthread....highlight=FRAM http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/d...FRAMTG3985.jpg |

I've been using the Bosch filters with no problems.
 |
Re: Oil Filters - Step In
I typically run the PureOne on Napa Gold (it's a WIX filter) and they have always done well. I've never had the intermittent quality problem like the Bosch or Mobil1 filters.

Re: Oil Filters - Step In
fram are ok to use now? i thought i remembered reading a study that said they were crap filters and went to bypass almost instantly. I know when i ran one on my car my oil pressure on the gauge was much lower then it was when using a Mobil one filter
