Opinions on a 94 Z
 

I may be taking a look at a 94 zr-1 within the next few weeks. Sellers asking $20,500 for it. Car has just under 50,000 miles, clean carfax, and looks great.
Has some work done to it:
"The heads have been ported, polished and port matched. The cams have been indexed and a* K&N performance air filter was added. The PROM has been tuned to mid level performance by Team ZR1, http://teamzr1.com/tune.html, and the rear differential has been changed from stock 3.54 to a 3.73 rear axle ratio Also, the exhaust is a Magnaflow cat back and has a performance aluminum radiator. Dyno?d at 400 rwhp. Another important fact is that the clutch and slaves were just replaced only 1000 miles ago." Also has 19" 3pc forged Automonde.

Just wanted to know if it seems like a good deal. Also, the car has 95 louvers behind the front wheels. Is that something I should raise an eyebrow to and I should look into, or no big deal?

I am also looking into a white 1990 with less than 50,000 and a clean carfax. It's the white 1990 in the for sale section of the site. It's the white 1990 being sold by Dave Duffield; asking $14,900.

dyno seems a little low for the porting but i'd still buy it.

Yep! 400 RWHP would be about right for a plenum and IH porting with a tune and headers. No mention of headers, but I wonder if that may be a forgone conclusion, and the "port matching" referring to the transition between the ported IHs and heads (is where that term is usually in play), is my guess.

But, to the OP's question, heck yeah! Darn well worth a look at that price with those mods and mileage!! But the steal of the century would be Franks 441 for about $10k more. (Course, if I had his money, I'd burn mine!:-D)

JMHO, the 95 gills could be changed back to 94 gills as all of them are interchangeable so that would be your taste. I doubt that there was an accident where the front end was replaced if you know what I'm saying. Swapping gill panels is a common mod.

The rest of the car as you describe it seems to be a buy! I've got 49,6 on my 90 and there is little evidence that the motor is getting tired so I wouldn't worry about the mileage seeming to be excessive to the point of hurting the car.

I say if you can make a deal that you like and you like this car's color combo, then go for it....no fear of the mileage as long as she was taken care of with all the normal good maintenance practices. I like the 3.73's too!

49,600 miles?! Heck! I got 119,xxx on a 94 and she never ran better.

:o yea i know....but my car had to wait 14 yrs to be driven, the O.O. didn't have much time for her but I'm making it up to her now!:mrgreen:

OP,

For what it's worth, this seems to be a terrific car based on your description.
Also, I like the fact that it was kept basically stock with minor mods I am planning on - headers, P&P, port matching, Magnaflow, 19" rims, alum. rad and a reasonable tail ratio for crusing.
What color is it? Vin?
Mine is also a 94, #256.

Boys, Boys, if that Z was done pre 2002 or even pre 2006 since most tuners didn't start to port to today's standards that is within the power range of ported Z's back then.
