Holy Cow!!
I got my rear GS-D3's mounted today, and put the wheels on tonight. The fronts are on backorder, so I'll have those in a few weeks. I couldn't resist the urge, so I went for a spin.
I drive around for about 10-15 minutes first, letting the car warm up, gradually getting on it a little more. Anyway, when it was all warmed up, I found my usual spot, a right turn from an intersection onto a nice 55mph, lightly travelled, 1/2+ mile stretch of road before the next anything. No cars around, none coming, so I punch it. Well, put the GS-C's back on because those things spun like mad in 1st gear! I suspect they still need to be worn in a little bit, though, to have good traction. Anyway, hooked up for 2nd gear and WOW! The car pulled really hard! I wonder if it's that my intake duct no longer collapses? Or the fresh helping of 35F air that the motor gets after pulling out that water shield off the airbox? Whatever it was, it was great! As an aside, are the GS-D3's lighter than the GS-C's? The wheels/tires weighed a ton when I took them in, they didn't seem quite so bad when I got them back with new tires. The GS-C by itself is fairly hefty, I'd guess 20lbs easy. I wonder if real A-molds are much lighter than my AFS's? Maybe I need to step up to Dymags to shave some pounds... ;) |
Re: Holy Cow!!
My rear factory A-molds with 335 Pilot Sports are 55lbs. If I recall correctly the real A-molds are about 2lbs lighter than AFS.

Re: Holy Cow!!
I know that a rear GSC with less 5,000 miles on it weighs 30 lbs

Re: Holy Cow!!
Cool, thanks for the numbers. I'd believe them all, I figured the wheel/tire combo weighed ~50lbs or so.
I'd like to have original, not repro wheels, but a 2 lbs saving isn't much incentive. :) I should keep what I have for now, they work and look nice. |

So when you buy the lighter originals, you can sell me yours.  |
Re: Holy Cow!!
 My D3's don't behave like that! Man, Mr. Haibeck's work must have contributed a bunch to the power output at the secondary activation point?
 better buy stock in a tire company Bob, sounds like you might need it! |

My original air duct definitely sagged in the middle, and I imagine when it warmed up it got worse. So the new Samco probably is helping. And that splash shield, that thing practically covers up the ouside air holes completely. So that should help get outside air to the filter more. We'll have nice weather this weekend, I'll have to drive it around more to get a better feel for the tires grip. The car is a bit quieter/smoother when cruising, getting the fronts too should help even more. |
Re: Holy Cow!!
The tires grip like glue. After using GSC's for so long it was nice to have a tire that grips

Re: Holy Cow!!
The "attitude" of the GSD3 tire will get better as the road warms up .
Also the AFS rims are heavier than the stockers. |
