Got Lucky tonite

No, Not that Lucky..... Settle down.

Finally got some time off and started reassembling my 91 from repairing my starter solenoid this spring.

Got the Inj Housings torqued down, installed the new Fuel Injectors and rails, was installing the retaining clips on the Fuel Inj to rails.

Last one going on, #8 secondary when my fat fingers fumbled and away it went down into the bowels of the motor.

#@^%&**^$, started looking around with the trouble light, I could just see the edge of it down alongside the starter.

Out with my trusty long handled forceps, Ahah,,,,,, I managed to push it completely under the starter. $%^&#$%@,,,, So out with a piece of wire, twist and bend it,,,, go fishing in the dark.... No Joy.....

Son ofa Biatch,,, Don't tell me I'm going to have to strip everything to get the freaking starter out again....

Sit down, have a smoke, Figured I would be making a trip to the Chev Dealer tomorrow, should be a common part, but what are the chances of being in stock???? Probably not good, with My luck.

Go to get up and notice my long handled blow gun on the bench, Hmmmm..... Managed to get the head of the blow gun down the hole in front of the starter where the secondary vacuum switch used to reside.

Couple of really good blast of air and I heard a light metal sounding thing ricocheting around the engine and then the sound of it hitting the concrete on the floor.... Success.

OK, where did the little bugger go now? A few minutes crawling around looking under everything found it snuggled up against the inside of a tire.

CAREFULLY installed it this time.

Enough for tonite, mixing a cocktail.....

I hear ya. You got lucky!

I lost a 6" long ratchet handle for my 1/4" drive socket set - slipped out of my hand and disappeared between the tunnel and the bell housing while attempting to tighten the DIS connector at the back of the motor. It never hit the floor, but in spite of me climbing under to look, use a loop of string to swipe the top of the bell housing, a couple hours round and round again in all...I never found it! It just vaporized!

And, a black hole for long tube header bolts is the pocket formed by the four pipes where they join the collector section. (ask me how I know!:o)

Don't you just hate it when a small bolt or socket falls into the valley and

a) you just finished bolting the plenum down

b) it finds its way under the starter

Simple Murphy's Law geometric principle for finding stuff - that actually DOES make it to the floor...

Draw a line from front right tire to rear left tire, and from front left to rear right. Where they intersect, 'X' marks the spot http://www.zr1.net/forum/images/icons/icon10.gif

I keep an articulated extending magnet w an LED light built into the head. Perfect for this type of search and rescue mission.

"articulated extending magnet w an LED light built into the head."

Now that sounds like a useful tool, where did you find it?
