1990 ZR1 Hood and Gas Door Emblems

I have a 1990 with Vin number 2396 and it has plastic emblems that the NCRS Manual says belong on a 1991. The car only has less than 5000 miles so I am wondering if the book is wrong or they were changed for some unknown reason. Also, I understand that the 1990 emblems which look different are made out of metal and were held on with nuts and washers mine have no fasteners just adhesive applied.

Would some of you guys check out your cars and advise as to what yours have??

Thanks

Dave

I have 1990 #1786. I'll check tonight when I get home. Pretty sure they are bolted on, at least the gas door one, 'cause I have to wash around it.

I know the gas door has nuts and adhesive, the gas door on both my 91 & 93 are metal. The hood both have nuts on the 91 is metal not sure on the 93. I'm sure the 91 is original as I've had it since it had 9K miles.

Most the new OEM replacements are plastic posts with aluminum chase nuts. My 91 original emblems were ALL metal with metal threaded posts, adhesive and metal nuts. The NCRS book is correct for 90 as they were different than the 91-96 C4 run but incorrect on the 91s they were indeed all metal from the emblem to the threaded posts to the metal nuts. Yours are oem aftermarket replacements

Just happened to see this on eBay. Should help answer your questions AND give you a reasonably-priced option if you need a new one (on the gas door emblem, at least). Good luck.

The 1990 has metal emblems on the front and rear.

The flag colors ere changed in 91.

The rear emblem on the gas door according to the manual is suppose to have acorn nut's for < 2000 vin. My 90 is 1964 and it has nuts with integrated washer's.

I feel confident the nut's with washer's are correct as my emblems are originals. Atleast that what my last flight judging has proven. 99.3%

The ebay add appears to be aftermarket.

Notice the round circle, the nos part below has a flat and a radius down each side of the large black circle.

When I enlarge the pic, it does appear to be correct...looks like it's flat to me, could just me my eyes. The other thing that leads me to believe that this is likely an actual NOS piece is the peel-away liner on the double-stick tape. I've seen several NOS GM emblems of this period and the common thread seems to be that this liner is orange and made of plastic, as opposed to coated paper. This emblem has that, so my gut tells me it's real.

That said, you're the one with the Top Flight, so I defer to you!
