This above all: to thine own self be true,
And it must follow, as the night the day,
Thou canst not then be false to any man.

That is exactly what I was thinking. A ride or drive in any 90-95, and you find out immediately.......or until you get a little out of town :) We know what we have, and just how special they are. And that is why we have them.

"Alas, the C4 ZR-1 seems destined to be the SVO Mustang of Corvettes—a technically interesting car that was never really understood or appreciated by the vehicle’s core constituency."

The SVO was another car that was also ahead of it's time.

It's their loss!

Nice words about the ZR-1. Also check out the sidebar in that article about the provenance of Zora's "experimental" 1955 Corvette, (with a 56' frame, 57' 283 Fuelie motor, and a four speed.) Interesting tale.

I'm gonna chalk this up to one main reason....the ZR1 just never set itself apart from other Corvettes. I blame it on the designers at GM at the time. They put SOOOO much time, effort and money into the power plant and couldn't care less about making a newer design for the Z. Or at the very least they could have kept the 91-96 front end redesign STRICTLY for the ZR1 and kept the other models with the original front end. That at least would have forever set the King Of The Hill apart from the other Vettes during that generation.

I've talked to many guys who considered C4 ZR1, but could never justify the price as it looks exactly like every other corvette of that generation.

Re: We are famous! (sort of)

Ok I see the point that some people feel that the ZR1 should be more distinguishable from a base Vette (not people who own them of course) but the interesting about the iconic Vettes that are lusted after and bring the big bucks i.e. an L88 in a C2 or C3 is really not distinguishable from a base vette. Granted what was stated above is the reality in the marketplace, but anyone who is who is a Corvette fanatic and considers an L88 the hoy grail would have a hard time convincing me that the appeal to that car is anything beyond the performance. Aside from a stinger hood which all big blocks have it looks like a base corvette, and I will go beyond the L88, because u know they are very rare, but big blocks fetch large $ in general and there is no design difference other than the hoods. Just my 2 cents
