hypothetical 90 z resurrection thread

As some as you know there has been a recent thread pop up in the for sale forum about a 1990 z that has fallen into disrepair while in long term storage.
this car has brought up some interesting talk on more than one forum (for those who have not been following here are links to the threads)
http://www.zr1.net/forum/showthread.php?t=28468
https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...-be-worth.html
now regardless of what is going on with this car in real life, I thought it would be a fun thought experiment to see what all you think should/could/would happen to this car
here is what we will use as our test subject.
1990 Zr-1, comp yellow, 2 owner car , 35k miles, stock, good interior and exterior cosmetics, ran when parked 12 years ago, was parked not placed in storage
mice have gotten to the underhood wiring and hoses but not the interior wiring.
interior does have mouse smell however.
now here is the assignment.
what is the car worth in its current state? would it be worthwhile to try to save?
if so what would be the best course of action and what would be the financial burden? what would the value be at the end?
I look forward to hearing everyones expert opinions

I will alert Mark Horner on this thread. While not a ZR-1, I know Mark's 88 Challenge car suffered the same fate. Wiring harness chewed and mouse droppings/smell everywhere.

Fairly certain he took the entire interior out, cleaned and replaced as needed and replaced/repaired all the wiring.

I don't know all the exact details so hopefully he will provide more insight.

Having spoken to the owner she's pretty emotional about the car. Could it be savaged ? Yes but at what cost.? If it needs a total new interior because of the mice/rat problem, a new paint job on top of all the potential problems it would make more sense to part it out. However if money is no object go for it. It's like owning a T-bucket. You will never see the money you put into it back out of it so the best one to buy is the one for sale that is completed at half the price it took to put it together. GC

Try to find a slightly wrecked doner car for about 10-12K and spend another 10-12K switching things out. You can always repaint later. Still have more than its worth in it, both not so much it's absurd...especially if you have an emotiional bond with the car.

It is what it is.. and as that... it's entirely the owners decision. I have asked for pictures to advise her further. Hopefully that is fore coming

Considering its Comp Yellow, rare for 90 I'd fix it but wouldn't pay over $10,000 the way it sits. I'd gut the interior down to the bare floor and go from there. I think there were only 24 Comp Yellow cars built in 90. Definitely worth saving,if the car were any other color that would be a tough call on value. Is the owner wanting to sell the car?

Re: hypothetical 90 z resurrection thread

owner has been in contact with gc about her car, the fate of which is unknown that is why I started up this thread. I do not want to disparage her or her car but wanted to see what others would do in a similar situation. I am of the opinion that the car I described is of very little value as is sits as it is unknown if the car can be brought back for a reasonable price and without being able to verify the function of its core components it is also not worth much as a parts car. (unknown engine, trans, possibly smell contaminated interior and tub does not leave a lot of meat on the bone)
this is just a hypothetical not about the actual car, if she decides to read it and see some opinions all the better to be informed as to what she can do to hers but I do not want to highjack or speak for/about the owner or her car from the other thread.
thanks

This car can and needs to be saved. GC can help with parts and Jerrys Gaskets just about has everything to bring it back.

I would fix it. I would have liked a quasar or yellow Z but beggars cannot be choosers when you find a good price in your range
