90-95 Power steering pump solution

Howdy. Passing this information onto the brotherhood. Cliff please save this info. When sourcing a power steering pump for an early 90 or 91 Z a power steering pump appears the same as a standard pump on all C4s 84 up to a 91. You will see this at Ecklers and Rock auto for instance.

They are not.. The power steering pumps ARE ZR-1 specific. if you are not getting a cast iron vs aluminum body its not the right pump as the bosses and threaded portions are wrong.

So. SOLUTION?.. Volvette.com has a 90-95 Power Steering rebuilt pump part number 4PS80D there is a core charge but its is a cast iron body like the original. To the left you see the rebuilt cast iron pump. Pics 2 and 3 are the aluminum incorrect replacement next to the old pump.

BOTTOM LINE UP FRONT?.. Power Steering pumps for ZR-1s are ALL ZR-1 specific for the 90-95 model years.

No problem..if I can save a forum brother time and effort..it is worthwhile. Even GC buys the wrong part from time to time.

The pump is buried under the motor?.. So until you are in there and you have the part in hand, it is hard to know. GC

GC,

Did your power steering pump fail? Any idea what caused the failure? If due to age, how many miles?

Great information. Yep, avoid the ?Fits 1990-1995 ZR-1? from places like Corvette Central. I picked one up and had to promptly send it back. Indicated in great detail that they are carrying the wrong part. Still up for sale on their website. Not sure who is in charge of their parts supply but they aren?t familiar with ZR-1s. Just rebuilt mine like I should have in the first place.

It's the same all around EBay, Rockauto, autozone etc... fits ZR-1

This is why this information needs to reside HERE as the subject matter experts for the ZR-1 brotherhood. This is why this is here to SHARE....

91 CorvetteZR-1: Did you use a rebuild kit ? If so where did you source it?

Re: 90-95 Power steering pump solution

Hi. I need to replace my pump apparently and just read the post about the aluminum replacement pumps not fitting correctly. I see that Corvette Central advertises the pumps for ZR-1s now on their website. They look to me to be aluminum ones..can you advise if these would then not fit now or do you think they may have corrected the fit since 2 yrs ago when the original post was written??
