Track cooling recommendations
 

I am currently refreshing my '90 with a full under plenum service including injectors and coils, I have also deleted the secondary system and removed the associated hardware and vacuum lines.

My plans with the car are to be a street/autocross car with some HPDE mixed in. I have a new 2 inch DeWitt radiator as well as one of Pete's underdrive water pump pulleys. I know the bypass system posses a problem with sustained time past approximately 6k rpm. I have searched and found mixed answers in posts about other options for helping keep the car cool for the occasional 20 minute HPDE sessions. Any help or links would be appreciated.

Best thing i ever did to keep my 94 Z cool was to go to DeWitt dual core, Spal fans and 200 amp alternator to keep Spal fans running. I know some believe OEM fans push as much air as Spal fans but I respectfully disagree based on my experience.
Marc's reprogrammed chip to have fans come on at lower temp and one 1/8" hole drilled on the thermostat flange are both vital to keep coolant temp down.

Fans unfortunately aren't much help on track as they shut off at 40mph.

the thick core dewitt and ron davis radiators do a great job

run a dedicated bigger oil cooler If you upgrade to the high quality radiators that can stand the pressure, you can get rid of the bypass for sustained 6k plus rpms

I figured with the radiator upgrade there had to be a way of minimizing the effect of the bypass or eliminating it entirely, but every thread I found was full of conflicting info and no real definitive answers.

did u remove entirely or cut spring down on thermostat?

do some searches on posts from Tyler Townsley He did some very good write ups on the bypass and removing it.

If you spend LOTS of time above 6000 rpms and have a rad capable of the gpm flow and pressure, I think eleminating the bypass makes sense.

GM spend a ton to save a cheap @$$ rad, doesn't make any sense!!!

Goat, i just put an all aluminium rad in, and cut the spring in my tstat per tyler townsleys recommendations. im not sure if it will be effective on track (i head there tomorrow) but for highway cruise in 6th gear with ac on max and 20c ambient (pretty low compared to my american friends down south) the car is a full 22deg C cooler!!! im impressed to say the least so far. track day tomorrow will tell me if the sustained high rpm recirc has been mitigated and if the car will stay cooler.
