1991 zr1 bigger brakes with stock sawblades
Anyone install bigger brake calipers for front brakes with stock sawblades? I am looking to upgrade my front brakes + rotors (same size rotor just slotted/drilled) and keep rear brakes stock. I am having issues researching if any kit or C5/C6 brakes would fit our stock sawblade rims. Any input is appreciated. I will be putting braided stainless brake lines and DRM BRAKE Bias spring.

Re: 1991 zr1 bigger brakes with stock sawblades
I have two stock calipers mounted on each rotor Front and rear. Eight Total Calipers. Copied a kit that was available in the early 90s. Had to make a machine shop run of six mounting brackets. Still have a couple set left if interested ??

The Wilwood Brakes 140-8337 work perfectly in this applicaton also.....:thumbsup: https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cor...dacf1236c4.jpghttps://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cor...4a4bc7c6d1.jpghttps://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cor...511ba0a498.jpg Also am using the Wilwood Premium Straight Angle Front Flexline 220-8338 Brake Line Kit on both the 1990 Standard Corvette and the 1990 ZR1 Corvette. :handshak: Post 270 - Wilwood 6 Piston Brakes with 13" Rotors and Wheel Alignment |

To the OP: Im running C5 front brakes on my 1994 with stock A-Molds and dont have any issues. |
Re: 1991 zr1 bigger brakes with stock sawblades
When I was running C5 front brake calipers with A-Molds, no issues but when I changed the A-Molds to the Fikse FM5 I had clearance issues and needed spacers to clear.

I did use 1/8" spacers on the current application of Wilwood 140-8337 using Sawblades on a 1990 ZR1 which the thread of the wheel bolts are still fully engaged with the Lug Nuts. The wheel spokes were not touching the Caliper but within 1/16" without the 1/8" spacers  |
Re: 1991 zr1 bigger brakes with stock sawblades
For those doing this mod 6 piston with Wilwood and 17 inch Fiske FM5s they will fit. Spacers were not needed.

Using the larger shims actually moves the caliper closer to the Wheel Spokes. Did you use any shims to align the Brake Pads on the Wear Surface of the Rotors (The small shims)? The need for shims varies from wheel to wheel. Wilwood provides 12 large shims (.015") and 16 small shims (.025") with each 140-8337 Brake Kit. https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cor...2c73ae2b13.jpg |

Wilwood provides 12 large diameter shims (.015") and 16 small diameter shims (.025") with each 140-8337 Brake Kit. The large diameter shims are used to move the Caliper side to side to center the Rotor between the brake pads. The small diameter shims are used to move the Caliper and brake pads radially outward so the brake pads cover the whole surface of the Rotor. |
