header debate
Should I or shouldn't I. Right now the car is making 363rwhp with B&B exhaust, Haibeck chip and some plenum and injector hsg work. I am considering a set of Stainless Works headers and Random Tech cats. I would appreciate any comments reguarding this instalation. Is there any welding or cutting required? Or any other mods needed before doing this.
Thanks and Seasons Greetings to all!! Rob |
I think it would be worth your time. I have about the same set up as you . I added the stainless headers. I'd say you'll pick up 20 if not 25 rwhp with your current mods. If your somewhat handy with a wrench you can handle the job. It take time, all day in my case. Also I would not attempt to do this job with out a lift.
I don't have the Random Cats so I can't comment on the welding or cutting. Good Luck :!: |
DO IT! Simply for the sound, and the extra performance is just a benefit!

Go for it. Try to get the headers coated by Swain Tech to try and keep the underhood temps. down a bit.

make sure you get the super high flow stainless steel cats, they cost a bit more (around 280 per) but are well worth it. the zr-1 really benefits above 6k rpms with the headers and free flow exh even on a stocker. fyi, the difference on the 390 stroker was 74 rwhp between the stock manifolds, and exh vs headers + b&b on a stocker, the difference is much less, but still very significant. this is the "low hanging fruit" on the zr-1 and a must do before you consider much other mods to get the most out of the car. the sound alone is intoxicating and worth the price of admission. your tire salesman will thank you also!!! |
