Dipstick Tube Seal

Anybody got a couple of dipstick tube seals they want to part with?
Shoot me a price shipped to zip code 83686 if so.
Thanks.
John

What is special about this seal?

I assume when you do headers it HAS to be replaced or can it be reused?

Nope... Can be reused, but they're getting old, splitting, tearing up when re-inserted, etc.

John, sorry I have no news to report yet on getting them made. Been tied up on other matters.

Re: Dipstick Tube Seal

I just installed a set of SW headers on my Z, when I removed the dipstick tube I could not find the seal. I used an oil resistant "O" ring & it seams to be working fine (no leaks).

Re: Dipstick Tube Seal

The dipstick seals can be accidentally pushed into the crankcase during dipstick install if it comes off the dipstick when it's removed, especially if the mechanic doesn't know it's there. I've had a couple of calls saying "mine didn't have one" or it "disappeared cuz I can't find it." O-rings would be easier to lose that way, but beats the heck out of nothing. If the bottom of the dipstick was "flared" maybe the o-ring would stay on better when removed again.

One note: I don't think the seal ending up in the pan is the end of the world.... probably won't hurt anything since it's below the windage tray & the pickup screen will stop it from getting into the pump.

tomtom72,

The o-ring I used was from an assortment I bought, they are oil/fuel resistant and I chose one that fit tightly on the dipstick tube & does not slip over the flange that stops the dipstick from being pushed deeper into the oil pan.

Re: Dipstick Tube Seal

Finally finished the drawing for the dipstick seal and have sent it out for quotation. I'm not very optimistic that I can justify the cost of the injection mold for a small run, but always hopeful.
