Crankshaft rear oil seal replacement
 

It appears as though I have a leak from the Crankshaft Rear Oil Seal. So, I guess I will be pulling the transmission and fly wheel. The job looks straight forward.

The manual says to install the new seal into the housing with Tool J37312. I don't have that tool. Is the tool available? Can I do the job with a substitute?

Has anyone bought a new crankshaft seal recently and know a source?

Can do it with out the tool, no problem, bout' the only ones that use the tool is dealerships, TBO. Just keep it squared up as it's going on. I keep a used one one hand just for this purpose, use it as my 'Tool'. Rear main seal is the same as any small block in a Camaro, pick-up etc., from the 1986 on up. About the only thing that is the same compared to an LT-5.

I can furnish the gasket & seal from stock. Easy job, once you get the flywheel off.

If you need an extra set of hands, I can help you out. It would probably do me some good to see a transmission pull. I may have a clutch job in my not so distant future.

Rich, I can use the assistance, thanks. I am gathering parts right now and will be making the repair soon.

Come on up, we can do your clutch here if you want, easy one day job.

Just let me know, I'll be there. Clutch may be a winter job, don't have any issues yet. Also like to drag my laptop up there and pick you brain on the Datamaster sofware, did my first record yesterday.

Glad to hear that you got the data scanner working. Can you eMail me the .uni file so that I can review it and compare to mine?

I am busy this coming weekend (Fri, Sat & Sun), but I am available before and after that.
