Hard to say what/why those "intercept" (wiretap) connections were made. But, I've got nothing nice to say about them, based on the number of problems I've encountered as result of them being used: sooner or later.
Installing weather pac connectors, or soldered splices with shrink tube is infinitely a better connection than those wire intercept POS.
