I have never seen a '90 crash sensor fail. The sensor must make an electrical connection to the frame. Clean and seal the area under the sensor. The error code needs to be cleared using the procedure in the service manual. The SIR lamp will not go out until the clear code procedure is performed.

Sometimes the sensor connector in the car causes the error. Unplug and reconnect the connector to wipe and reseat the contacts. The air bag wiring is color coded yellow.
