Marty, this pretty much sums it up for me too (about the ZR-1 being "the car" for me). For that, it doesn't matter the color and I never meant to infer one was better than the other (of course some of you know think red is the fastest!). Maybe it is my age group coupled with the memories of the car in its heyday, but I think I will always have to have a C4 ZR-1, because that is the car that does it for me.
You have answered the original question well.

While speculation cannot be ruled out as a motive, it might be equally plausible that they just love the color and car more and more. Couple this with the knowledge that they would find it hard to replace if they ever let it go, and maybe they just do not want to take the risk of selling something that is nearly irreplaceable.
While there are always newer and better, sometimes you just want what is most meaningful to you. I would enjoy a C-6 or a C-7 ZR-1, but would not consider selling my Ruby. I am not keeping it for future value and also understand that a hearse has no car trailer hitch. I keep it because it is a mini vacation every time I look at, play with it or drive it. Things change, but that feeling has remained the same for over 20 years. Maybe those with the rarer colors, or even the common ones feel the same as I do.
