I just ran into a nice older guy who says he owns one of 9 experimental 1983 corvettes. His dad who worked for GM was able to get it from a engineer there...car was never serialized for 13yrs but they gave him a notorized bill of sale. GM tried to get it back from him years later. He says it has 425 HP quarter in 9.5 and certified at 205mph bottom is all F1 suspension and wheels do not turn to far in. NCRS has seen the car as well, and I believe has given it some sort of documentation.
The car is a silver green with woodgrain on the dash. He said the rest of the cars were destroyed. I've never heard of this car, but I thought you guys might want to hear about it. |

Wow, sounds like one huge load of bullsh!t... If it only took 425hp for a C4 to do 9's, or to do 205mph.... Not even to get started on the '83 thing.
Maybe he got the numbers all flubbed up... 205hp, 4.25 + 9.5 in the quarter |

According to the plaque in the museum on the 83 there...it is the only survivor of 43 made. It's right at the entrance in the "THREE'S DISPLAY"...1953, 1963, 1973, 1983, 1993, 2003. The only Three's Display in the World. Just saw it day before yesterday.

I agree completely but I think this might be a test mule car at best, If I remember correctly I've seen this car and it looks like a 84 but with cheesy wheels and a aftermarket paint color. i've read about test mule cars that were built to look at one or two types of performance categories but those cars always seem to be lacking all the other parts to make a streetable car. Maybe this has been slapped together around a test engine?

Trust me:
There are more than the 1.5 '83 Corvettes most know about(the half was the C4(an '83) above the main entrance to the plant)). The Museum had this half when GM took it down(Probably late '96); I'm guessing they still have it but am not 100%. I've heard many stories from reliable sources that there is an '83 in Milford, and possibly more than one at the Desert Proving Grounds in AZ. You'd be surprised what GM has tucked away all over the US. They have the strange habit of 'giving' various trade schools/educational institutions prototype/very low serial number cars for 'training.' Regardless, I'd say it is *very* unlikely that the aforementioned story holds any water.. The truth is out there! ![]() ![]() Brian A. 90 ZR-1 12.09@118 01 Z06 not quite stock Last edited by ZR WON; 05-13-2008 at 07:34 PM. |
