Hello everyone,
I have some ZF questions I thought someone here might know. Im currently finishing a Gen 1 407 to take the place of my LT5 and for transmission Id like to keep the LT5's ZF6 for now. I have procured a bellhousing from an LT1 C4 but I still have my original input shaft, which just aint gonna work. I can buy the LT1 input shaft and bearing retainer no problem. Does anyone know intimately what's involved with swapping the inputs? Obviously a full rebuild, but how difficult is it? What specialty tools are required? Is there a reliable source for rebuild info? Is it worth the $$$ to have it done by a shop specializing in ZFs? Is there anyone who makes a stronger input shaft? The aforementioned SBC will most likely have massive torque, what will be the first thing to break in the ZF? Any other weak links? Are there any proven mods that will greatly increase reliabilty or power handling capacity? Sorry about so many ???s but I really dont know much at all about this tranny except that I like the way is shifts w/ the B&M stick. Any info would be greatly appreciated. |

I would say to go over to zfdoc's web site. zfdoc.com, Bill is a very stand up guy and will share his knowledge freely. You might also get the answer about the C-beam from him too.
Only thing is that Bill is always very busy in the shop, quality shops usually are that way, so it may take some time for an e-mail response from him....but, he will answer your Q's freely if he has anything to share.
