Default Question abou my 1990 ZR1.

OK guys I have a question regarding my 1990 ZR1, I have had my car now for about 3 years, The car has 9200 miles on it and is absolutely gorgeous but today after a quick bath I opened the gas lid and dont know how I never noticed it before but the bottom of the gas lid ( underneath where the emblem is on the gas lid) is painted black, not the same color as the car which is red, My uncle has a 1991 and underneath the gas lid is white just like the color of his car, Did some idiot really go out of there way to paint this black or did it come from the factory that way? I cant figure it out and knew this was the best place to come. Its car #158 and I know it was never hit according to carfax, Someone out there please ease my mind!!!!

Mike, it should be red. It may have been replaced due to damage and they used a black one and just painted the top.... or they may have spilled some gas and just painted the bottom black. Who knows.

Mike,

The bottom of the gas lid on both of my 91 ZR-1s were painted the same color as the car. One of the cars was red (also with gray interior).

Where on Long Island do you live?

Thanks, I live in Manorville, How about you? After further inspection also something I noticed when I pop the hatch to the left and right of the window is also black unlike others I have seen online which are the same color as the car. Other than these 2 flaws which took me 3 years to notice the car is mint, Its always something with these cars to throw me off.

Hey Jeff, I actually had a few more questions for you, I see you have a ZR1 website link, I actually have my car going in to the shop on thursday of this week and would like to pick your brain for a few minutes if you would not mind.

Hey Mike

Do you have the Owner's Kit, aka pizza box? In it will be a laminated copy of your car's window sticker and on it will be the paint code & color. If not look under the lid for the console, it has a sticker with all the RPO codes that are in the car, color included. If the car was black OEM then the paint code for a 90 = 41U. I don't know the code for red, sorry.

Tom

Mike, it's pretty clear your vehicle has been repainted. Look under the doors and compare other hard-to-paint places with your dad's 91 to verify, and look under the console cover for the original paint code.
