Default Raptor Megsquirt - Updates PLEASE!!

need a christmas present for me. what's the latest on the Lt5 Raptor TT project with the megasquirt???

love to do e85 with TT on the LT5. I think it would be the ultimate

going that route with a haltech ecm on the Z06 TT to "sort it all out" to see how it goes before taking the LSV to the next level.

my wallet won't be ready for quite some time, but I plan to do it in stages with the megasquirt being stage 1 so I can run e85 and hopefully get through the tough VA emissions.

thanks for any updates!!

Wouldn't all the lines need replaced to run e85?

Sorry Ron...

I was promoted at Lockheed and completed a short notice move to Texas... Needless to say I've not been on the Net very much lately. Oct - Dec were big months for the F-35 program. We had our first Weapon's Delivery's (bombs and missiles.) I was fortunate enough to be part of each one and each was a big success. It's a good time to be a part of the program, we have a great team...

UPDATE: Corey had a backlog in his shop for the Texas Mile but assured me that the Turbo Car was the next priority. He has Ron's new low compression 368 complete, the Mega Squirt is in his hands and 95% of the Turbo System is installed. Ron's Turbo System took much longer then the next will take because Corey was fabricating 8 systems at once. Future installs should only take ONE WEEK (or less) once our ducks are in a row!

Also in Jan, I'll be taking my Turbo Car in for mods. Expect bigger oil-less Turbo's, 15-20 psi boost, new style IC (like Ron's) and new valve springs for the increase in boost. I think Ron's car will out do mine @ 625 rwhp so I needed more power :-)

MS. I've been getting lots of calls and emails for ECMs however the MS guy's haven't any ready for me yet. We've been waiting on a new gasket but that's been 8 weeks ago. I'm hoping they can resolve this after the Holiday's...

Cheers,
Ron

Hi Ron,

My understanding is that one of the factors limiting boost is being able to keep the cylinders sealed. Are you planning on putting o-rings around the cylinders or will the head gaskets provide proper sealing? I have always wondered if an o-ring grove could be machined into the top of the sleeve. I kind of got the impression from Corey that 10 pounds of boost would be the limit.

The AES Racing's closed deck LT5 might be a consideration: a lot more meet on their sleeves for ringing the cylinders - being a closed deck and all.

couple of options here. LPE and some others went with a "stretched liner" that sticks up just a bit above the deck, and then precisely machined a receiver groove into the cyl head. very positive seal.

but I believe for me I'm going to use the AES block, with modern MLS hg if possible with cyl head studs.

the "new LS" guys are making 1k hp pretty ez on 4 bolt motors.

I think the E85 will really help. it's a much more forgiving high octane fuel that will allow boost.

Kev,

for sure then entire fuel system would need a refresh. stainless lines or braided lines, and eliminating the rubber.

e85 eats this stuff up and the pump and fuel injectors need to be compatible with the alchy and flow 30% more than a gas engine to feed the beast

going to take the plunge this winter with E85 on the TT 2003 Z06 to sort all this out.

using a Haltech ECM on that one that has a flex fuel sensor similar to OEM so it will "adjust on the fly" depending on the mix of alchy and gas which indeed varies at the pump a bit.

with the flex fuel sensor, it's not much of an issue and you can dump pump gas on top of e85 and lower the boost to compensate

I'd love to try a raptor TT on E85 on a STOCK ZR-1. tune the devil out of it, and see how long I can make it live.

any chance the megasquirt will support a flex fuel sensor? not a requirement, but it's a VERY cool feature!

I'll check with Corey on your limit. I would think you could push it past 10.

I used a custom Liner that Ron Woods (RIP) had designed. The liners are 4030 and the have a wider shoulder on the bottom to keep the rocking to a minimum. We had to mill the block where the liner sits to get them to fit as designed. The liners also have more surface area at the head gasket that are secured with Head Studs. We felt we could get 20 psi of boost with that setup. The only problem with my setup is that it's limited to 15 psi of boost because I have the stock valve springs. Well, for now that is...

I bet with the ECM and maybe a little Meth you could go to 15 but that's just me... Corey will have to make that call...

As far as the O-Ring goes. Yes Jerry and I looked at it but went with Ron's setup. We still think it can be done with groves, O-Rings and Jerry's Head Gaskets!

Cheers,
Ron
