It has been a bunch of years since doing this..
I have one cover off as i need to replace the breather filters in them Anaerobic sealer, it is applied to the perimeter only? I have both surfaces clean and I am ready to install the covers.. do I put oil or engine lube on the bearing surfaces of the cover prior to install? Cover end plugs.. install them on the head then let the cam cover get placed over them? Thanks

Run the sealer on the perimeter-to include the holes for the cam cover bolts, I also run a very thin layer around the spark plug area's(not trying to get the Anaerobic sealer in the O-ring area)-sort of like a first line of defense with the O-ring being second.(what I look for is a fair and consistent bead of the sealant when cam cover are torqued) when it comes to the end covers, I personally mount the two fwd cap's on the heads and the aft ones on the cam cover. I run a bead of Anaerobic sealant in the little valley for the caps too..you dont need too much, just enough to add a layer of protection. Lube:..if there was a reason to clean the journals(dirt, old sealant, boredom, getting away from the wife, nerding out in the cam cover ![]() ![]() Last edited by oricale; 02-28-2016 at 07:58 AM. |

I had to clean the cover to get the remnants of the old sealant off. Thanks for the tips.
how big of a bead do you use?

Using the correct sealant is critical. It must be "non-shimming." If it does not meet this specification it could inadvertently increase the camshaft journal bearing clearance.
http://www.jerrysgaskets.com/permabo...-sealant-13b4/ GM specifies PermaBond A136. Permabond quit making this product a few years ago, but we were able to get them to produce it again. Be careful about pseudo-products like "Perma-Lok" etc. We provide Permabond to the most well known LT5 engine builders and others. Loctite 518 was used before Permabond A136 became available.

I have the passenger side back together. I need to pull the driverside apart still
