Apparently it's being referred to "internally" as an LT5 which GM has coincidently just trademarked.

I saw the same thing last week. That's ok if they do.... Our LT5s weren't shared with 3 other cars, and were all natural. Just another reason why 1990 - 1995 LT5 is legendary

Well, I for one am pleased that GM is using the LT5 designation to properly
name a DOHC successor to the Lotus motor. Maybe all our bitching and gnashing of teeth has finally paid off. Maybe someone else knows, but I can't think of one mid-engine sports car currently being built today, that features anything other than an OHC architecture. So if GM is going to throw in w other supercars, the cost of entry and credibility is showing up w 4 cams. |

It would suck if GM finally did make a new LT5 with DOHC architecture and DIDN'T put it in a Corvette. Burn!

before they cancelled the DOHC V8's they had 3 displacement options, one was a 5.5L I think.

It'll be branded Cadillac, first.
Interestingly, if we can believe the 4.5-liter rumor, and if GM can get the same specific output as it can from the LF4, a 4.5L "LT5" V8 would make 580-hp. It may come down to weight. One of the original LT5's weaknesses was it's power density...it is a heavy engine. Hopefully a new "LT5" would approach the light weight of some of the Gen V8s, such as the LS7 which weighed about 455-lbs. Last edited by Hib Halverson; 09-05-2016 at 08:28 PM. |
