![]() Q: Whats the Difference between the older Vs newer B&B system __________________
The earlier system has a "Tri-flow etching" which is located on the top edge of each the oval tips on the mufflers which is hardly noticeable as its usually hidden by the body cut out where the tips and the rear body cut out meet. The B&B system is almost 20 years old the etching just means this is one of the earlier models within the first 10 years of production or so. B&B has changed the Tri-flow system, over the years to include modifying the center line resonator and the exit pipes with a newer style cone tip restrictors and moderate changes in baffling to the insides of the muffler. The design changes were done for one reason and one reason only... which was to reduce the Billy Boat problem with droning or resonance. ![]() B&B makes one for the nicest looking, least restrictive, Highest HP gaining and nicest sounding 3 inch system out there for the LT4 and LT5. However, in my opinion the earlier model systems are great for your track car but not for a daily driver. If thats what your looking for I suggest hooking up an X pipe, turning up the stereo and racing on! You could not be happier with a 3 inch B&B system on a track car. If this is how you want to fly with your ride then any B&B system is 100% worth the money or if you dont have the money just go to a 100% straight pipe system as its pretty much the same result. B&B just adds class to being a truly racing performance exhaust system. ![]() When I bought my ZR-1 it came with a B&B system on it. The earlier models like mine were a resonance laden problem. Just how bad? Well pretty damn bad especially in the 1200-1800 RPM range which folks is pretty normal driving around town style of driving. It was a pain to try to have a conversation in the car with any of my passengers unless I was up to freeway speed and the drone would go away. ![]() ![]() Now I have been told, from many folks on this board that Billy Boat with all the above changes to the system has solved most if not all of the droning issues. But im here to tell you the centerline fart can problem remains. ![]() So where am I now with an exhaust system? I have a Corsa power pulse system. Its a better Daily Driver system. And It sounds pretty good when you hammer it. It has a long slender resonator which I have yet to scrape. It looks real good but the oval tips of the B&B fit the rear body cut out better. It has four tips but 2 are dummies which works for me as I have two less to clean. My son however is not impressed but hes running straight exhaust on his LS1 Camaro (Ah Youth lol). I think his response was something like "well thats gay" So in Summary.. Track car.. B&B all the way and put in and X-pipe and throw the old style resonator in the trash. Keep the newer style if you decide to regain you hearing. And if you ever wondered why those resonators look beat up on most of the used systems? You now know why ![]() Daily Driver, go with a Corsa power pulse no question. Resonance isnot an issue and you use less aluminum polish. Hope this helps a future owner of either systems. Thanks for sharing your experience.
I also decided on the Corsa exhaust system for the same reasons. I must admit the 3" B&B system is mighty tempting though and the oval tips look great. But us more mature (older) guys got to keep our teeth in and save the remaining hearing we have left. |
