Alright cats and kittens, I need the best thinkers to toss out some ideas. I've been fighting a fuel pressure regulator issue for awhile. Car doesn't have 35k on it and I am now going to put on its 4th one. The first happened at around 19k. The ol Man had it replaced at a local shop years ago. It started to fail again a few thousand miles later but at that point it just sat for many years. Once I took hold of it, had a used one put in (as you know, they aren't made anymore) by a GM dealer. Here we are again hesitating under load at low rpms and I'm 95 percent sure it's the regulator.
I can't figure out why they keep failing. It's not a cheap fix every time either. I have to get this one replaced, if I can find one, but what in blazes is doing it? |

What’s with all the fuel pressure regulator problems lately?
Over the years, that’s one of least talked about problems on this site? |

I can't be 100 percent, but the timing is very similar and the cars behavior are identical to the last few times. |

I had the FPR go out on my first 91 around the 90,000 mile mark. I ended up replacing all the injectors which it needed and installed new factory fuel pumps. The car just didn't run at 100 % until the only thing left was the FPR. The pumps I could have done without probably. But it ran like a scolded monkey afterwards.

Please define what you mean by a failing fuel pressure regulator. What are the symptoms and what is the regulator doing or not doing. It’s pretty straight forward really. If the membrane fails you get fuel sucked into the intake. The regulator no longer adjusts the fuel pressure from about ~38psi with vacuum applied to ~50psi without vacuum. What pressure readings are you getting? Is there fuel coming out of the regulator vacuum fitting?
