Default First days driving depression

Hi to All

well my 90 ZR1 arrived in UK a couple of weeks ago and l went to collect....

typically with any car going US to UK the battery was dead, meaning deceased...this happens even if the battery is new as shipping handlers find mysterious ways to kill batteries in transit

we got him jump started tho and all was well, though didnt stop the engine for the whole 120 mile trip back

the drive was faultless tho nowhere to stretch his legs as this is UK and even freeways at mid day are like rush hour.....what was noted was how lazy the LT5 is .....bout 70mph and 1700 rpm in 6th.....casually overtake anything in 5th....really overtake anything in 4th....totally blow them away in 3rd

couple of faults ....LTPWS....ok no real worries ...old tyres....need replacing

service ride control came on

Ok l will sort that out....but Q.....can you change ride settings while on the move....or did l screw it up by doing so

So......happily got home...stopped car....would not turn over when tried to restart.....

took battery off and put on charger.....got hot....sides of battery expanded.....messy looking cells......so got another battery....but had to leave abroad before it arrived so left son to fit it

called him and he said it wouldnt start

Ok he didnt know about the cute US car trick of needing to put foot down on clutch

now l dont know if hes been back to try again.....lm hoping that was all it was.....maybe know today.....but with my luck that wont be it

so as he left it....all the gauges light up but no turn over...not even a click

So.....could someone help me with a dummys top 10 guide to "it wont start" issues......starting with dummest and finishing with not so dum

my sons bright but 16 and looking at a car that hes never worked on before

HELP

I know we have a few threads on the dreaded "no-start" here and over at the net registry site in the maintenance section....I believe "common issues" and "how to" ...I think if I remember correctly.

However, welcome on the new toy!

If the clutch pedal was not depressed the starter will not activate, but the DIC will light up all the lights. That is probably all that was preventing the start up, provided the replacement battery was the correct CCA rating and fully charged. I can't see what could have gone wrong from jumping her to give any issues at subsequent start-up's....hopefully it is just that the clutch pedal needs to be down for a start-up.

Thanks for that....lm hoping clutch down is all it is.....will call today and find out

dont think it can be starter, as it managed to jump when l collected it. Dont know where the clutch switch is yet or how to by pass it if its that fault. Dont think it could fail between collecting it and failing to start, but you never know

did you get a factory service manual with the car? if not i would get one , they sure help finding the problems and answers . you can use the searxh here for threads to help also . no worries its proably something simple.

yep...l got the all manuals before l even got the car but l will need to take a week off work to read them....hoping its easy as you say....one thing seems for sure is that you can spend as much time reading about ZR1 maintenace and repairs as you can driving them....probably more

i wish i was good enough on these things to be able to post a link for you. one way to tell if your clutch switch is working is turn it to start and watch the volts gauge as you push the clutch in and out if there is no change then bingo thats the offending angel. hope this helps a little
